Religious Symbols & Gangs

While walking in Montreal's metro, walking by many people, a good friend (an atheist) tried to convince me that any public religious symbol is wrong.

She argued that a christian cross, a jewish kippah, a muslim chaddor is an insult to modern western civilisation.

I disagreed.

They are no more an insult to modern western civilization than they are to each other.

My argument was that a chador, a sikh turban was just another personal tattoo.

Heck, our current federal PM has one on his arm. Removeable.

For a while there, a crucifix was just an accessory.  Then, it became the upside down cross.
