mattac Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 How do you think Trump can be both considered deviant yet take a position where he must represent American norms? 1 Quote
kactus Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 Trump is new to the administration and and a businessman. Extremely unpredictable and different from any president America has seen in its history. He reaches his fan base with limited vocabularies and 'cues' they want to hear. His deviancy is his malignant narcissistic behaviour which is troubling to put it mildly. That is not the norm and only time will tell when the 'system' decides that he is not fit to be the president of US of A.... Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 President Trump is not "deviant" compared to several other U.S. presidents (e.g. Jackson, Lincoln, T. Roosevelt, FDR, Reagan). Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

President Trump is using the power of the Executive Branch of the U.S. federal government to pursue his agenda promised in campaign rhetoric. Like his predecessors, he is doing so with and without support from his party, which has control of both the Senate and House. Trump will vigorously engage real and perceived threats to U.S. interests just as previous presidents have done. Trump will challenge the status quo for trade, border security, alliances, gunboat diplomacy, treaties (e.g. climate change, human rights). All of these issues pre-date Trump...they are not of his making. Nothing President Trump has proposed is really new in the United States' historical relationship to other nations and domestic policies...all have been seen before with various approaches by different presidents. For example, FDR actually interned American citizens and legal residents of Japanese descent during WW2, and his decision was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. 1 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Omni Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 Yep, presidents as recent as Bush attempted to ignore habeas corpus. Why not just erase it out of the system altogether? Then you can Gitmo to your hearts content. 1 Quote

Welcome to the board. Trump's the candidate who'd shown understanding of what America wants. The businessman in Trump had kicked in: understanding the needs of consumers the citizens. For all the experience Hillary has had in politics, she was still disconnected. Omni Posted February 6, 2017 Report Posted February 6, 2017 Well so far Trumps ban has managed to capture and quarantine a 5 year old American citizen for 4 hours. Good going Donald, who knows, your policy may have just sown the seeds of a terrorist when he grows up. Quote
