socrates Posted December 3, 2004 Report Posted December 3, 2004 I'm a student in 6th grade and in my class Ihave to write a newspaper editorial about a confliction in the 1940's. I chose Americas opinons on whether we should join in the fight against the nazis in the pre peal harbour era. Ihave been searching for days and could find no information about the subject above. You were the only people I could think of smart enough to help. Please if you have any information please list it belowe Thank You for your help anonymous student Quote
August1991 Posted December 3, 2004 Report Posted December 3, 2004 I suggest you do a Google search on "Why England Slept" and then pick a web site you like. In the late 1930s, a young man with journalistic aspirations wrote a senior thesis at Harvard that became a best-selling book. The information and analysis contained therein caused a huge debate in the U.S. and Europe. Some Web Site Quote
socrates Posted December 3, 2004 Author Report Posted December 3, 2004 Dear August 1991 I thank you for the advise and the website was informative but I'm looking for why America slept not why England slept. Any other replies are still welcome Quote

caesar Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 . I chose Americas opinons on whether we should join in the fight against the nazis in the pre peal harbour era. When you said "we" are you an American and mean the USA ; If you are Canadian; The USA did not try to push us around to follow their lead back then. We were still British subjects not "Canadians" Quote
Tawasakm Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 ummm caesar I'm slightly confused here... Which post are you quoting from? Quote
caesar Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 The original students question. There are not that many posts here to confuse you. Having a bad day??? Quote
Tawasakm Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 Actually I am currently whacked out on a fair amount of Panadeine Forte. An effective pain killer. Maybe I should just stop posting for a while? Quote
August1991 Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 Dear August 1991 I thank you for the advise and the website was informative but I'm looking for why America slept not why England slept.Socrates, my original post and link was to a book by John F. Kennedy. He was an American. He became President of the United States. His book concerned the United States.I understand that you are only in Grade 6 but I thought you should do some research on your own. Quote
Tawasakm Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 Keep in mind Socrates that you can also refine your google searches. For instance you can googles Scholar Search. This may leave you with less 'chaff' to sort through. Executing a search from the above example would take you to this page: Google scholar seach for American Isolationism Quote
theloniusfleabag Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 Dear August1991, This thread is based on utter BS. I contend that this is another case of 'avsfan' attempting to yank everyone's chain. "I am a grade 6 student.... who searched for days yet couldn't find anything about American Isolationism".. is ridiculous. Quote Would the Special Olympics Committee disqualify kids born with flippers from the swimming events?
caesar Posted December 5, 2004 Report Posted December 5, 2004 This threat is based on utter BS. I contend that this is another case of 'avsfan' attempting to yank everyone's chain. "I am a grade 6 student.... who searched for days yet couldn't find anything about American Isolationism".. is ridiculous. I do think that you are right on this. Sounds an unlikely choice of topics to ask grade six student to do. Quote
