jbg Posted October 19, 2016 Report Posted October 19, 2016 Sympathetic Canadians Have a Message for Americans: You Guys Are Great This article, in yesterday's New York Times, heartened my continued belief in our great neighbor (often misspelled as "neighbour") to the north, Canada. The article discusses, from a Canadian point of view, the warmth and depth of our relations. This is rare given the frequent focus on America's alleged bombastic patriotism. Positivity is delightful from time to time. Indeed our mutual propserity and happiness would be impossible without each other. Quote (From New York Times article) The presidential campaign has exposed deep divides in American society and left many in every political party anxious about the future. During this time of political tension, our neighbors to the north have one thing to say: America is just great. Some Canadians watching as American politics have hit rock bottom in recent weeks decided that the United States needed a cross-border pep talk. Thus was born a social media campaign called “Tell America It’s Great,” complete with a hashtag, a Twitter account and a series of YouTube video. ************************ Canada and the United States have a unique relationship. They share the longest land border in the world, and their economies, societies, law enforcement and defense operations are deeply entwined. Over $1.8 billion a day changes hands in cross-border trade, and roughly 400,000 people travel between the two countries daily. Three cheers from an American to Canada! Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Always remember that when you are in the right you can afford to keep your temper, and when you are in the wrong you cannot afford to lose it. - J.J. Reynolds. Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location? The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).
?Impact Posted October 19, 2016 Report Posted October 19, 2016 America is like an older brother. You have a longer independent history and often we want to follow your footsteps. Also like an older brother, we know you well and see your flaws and sometimes think we are better than you. Usually you make us happy and we want to chum around with you, but sometimes you embarrass us and we want to snub you. Often you look over us and protect us, but sometimes we just want to fight our own battles. Yes, it is a complex relationship, but in the end we are family and we love you. Quote
BC_chick Posted October 19, 2016 Report Posted October 19, 2016 Everyone is presenting this phenomenon as one of brotherly love, but I think it's more of a middle finger and STFU to Trump's Make America Great Again. That aspect of it is not getting its deserved commentary. Quote It's kind of the worst thing that any humans could be doing at this time in human history. Other than that, it's fine." I was listening to CFRA last night on the drive back through Ottawa, and I think it was on Brian Lilly's show they were responding with that exact commentary. What surprised me was that Lilly was making fun of those responses. Quote

bush_cheney2004 Posted October 19, 2016 Report Posted October 19, 2016 Patronizing at best.....and classic Canadian passive aggressive behaviour, very much like what Americans got from Justin Trudeau on 60 Minutes. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
