I like the picture the media is using of him.  Water in the background, like he's on a boat or something.  Looks like an old fisherman in good ol' Newfie land!  Yeah right.

Why, what kind of sad pathetic attempt at an ad hominem attack is this?

We know the guy is a judge. This presumes years of higher education and then years practicing as a lawyer and then years as a judge.

The guy is 63 and will likely sit on the SC til he is 75.

Probably will have worked harder than many fisherman during that time and likely collected less EI than them too.

But so f'ing what.

What a BS lame excuse of a BS lame ad hominem attack.

If a believer demands that I, as a non-believer, observe his taboos in the public domain, he is not asking for my respect but for my submission. And that is incompatible with a secular democracy. Flemming Rose (Dutch journalist)

translation:  wasn't really attacking him, but the media spin by the liberals on him.  "Look at him, he's a newfie!  Look...he's near water.  NFLD is Beachcombers n stuff!"

Oh, and he is a Newfie.  Born there, raised there.

What? Don't think NFLD has white collar workers?

Don't think a lawyer/judge likes to fish with fishing buddies?

Some of his buddies may even be real live EI recipients.....

I do, the Liberal Party obviously thinks most of Canada doesn't think so.

"No No this photo won't due, he's in a suit!  Quick, we need to make him look like a Newfie.  Tell him to look for some kind of pic of himself a boat or something.  What's with the awkward smile here?  Ok if that's all he has I guess this will do..."

No picture with the official release: http://pm.gc.ca/eng/news/2016/10/17/prime-minister-announces-nomination-mr-justice-malcolm-rowe-supreme-court-canada

Of course the media can use whatever pictures they get their hands on. I've seen fishing Rowe and judicial Rowe so it's whatever the media prefers to show those who consume tee vee newz.

Read the article.  He was a senior, politcial appointee of the Nfld Liberal govt.

Now he is appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada.

Yes, I know you applaud that connection.

Better yet, if one really does want to get a sense of his qualifications, read his answers to the questionnaire itself:

http://www.fja-cmf.gc.ca/scc-csc/nominee-candidat-eng.html

Now, I know this is work compared to reading what the MSM tells you about him but hey, there it is, a primary source for the initiated.

I don't know whether he was appointed to either court because of his party connections. Lawyers are frequently involved in politics.

In any case, being a provincial NL Liberal long ago doesn't mean a whole lot on the ideology front and there have been many defections to the other party over the years. There's little to choose between the PCs and Libs down here on govt. spending etc.

'Newfie' is a word better left to be used by natives of Newfoundland.

Not only do these boneheads make law, they egregiously make bad law - with no one to call them on it! How does anyone deal with THAT?

One cannot. They are the law. They pretty much rule the roost.

So Trudeau gets to appoint another judge, and this one doesn't have to be from Atlantic Canada! Whoo hoo!

I've heard no speculation on who but I'm going to go out on a very short limb and suggest it's sure not going to be a white guy or an English guy!

Given how desperate our PM is to show everyone how progressive and inclusive he is, it will almost certainly be an aborigine, probably an aboriginal woman. If not, then a Black woman. If she's a lesbian, then triple points!

Merit? Yeah, well, that'd be... nice I guess, but that's not really the point of the appointment, now is it? The point is to let Trudeau preen in front of the cameras for being such a wonderful progressive.

In addition to picking a new judge he also gets to pick a new chief justice. Again, there is zero chance it will be an English guy. Of the Francophones, only one is female, that's Suzanne Cote'. She will be the next chief justice.
