August1991 Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 (edited) Among the 1960s poets, I think John Lennon should have won the Prize. I suspect that his words will be remembered well after Bob Zimmerman's. Heck, what about Paul Simon? ===== If the Nobel Committee had chosen John Lennon as a Nobel Laureate in 1972, it would have had some claim to originality. By choosing Barack Obama in 2009, the Swedes became a eurotopian backwater. With Bob Dylan in 2016, the Swedes are no longer progressive. It's official. They wished for a better world that once was - but is now lost. Edited October 14, 2016 by August1991 Quote
Guest Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 (edited) I doubt Lennon's lyrics will last longer than Dylan's. His tunes might. I think that, if the Nobel Committee is going to include songwriting in the literature criteria, Dylan is probably the right choice. Edited October 14, 2016 by bcsapper Quote
BubberMiley Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 It made sense to me. There aren't many artists that have the lyrical depth that Bob Dylan has had. Maybe Leonard Cohen, but not quite as prolifically. And artists like Oscar Hammerstein III and Lorenz Hart and Ira Gershwin and Cole Porter were great but, again, not exactly pure poetry. bush_cheney2004 Posted October 14, 2016 Report Posted October 14, 2016 John Lennon was a misogynist and this is reflected in his earlier work. Sorry....no Nobel for him. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Sorry....no Nobel for him. LOL. Bob is a renowned and thorough ahole, he definitely did not win for his personality! But he is surely the greatest songwriter of the 20th century, and deserves the Nobel. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
August1991 Posted October 16, 2016 Author Report Posted October 16, 2016 (edited) In fairness, both Lennon and Dylan should have won. But each for a different reason.
