The most serious population explosions are occurring not in the West, though affluence and high consumption increases its impact. It's in the underdeveloped world.

Thus, fortunately, the Islamic State is pioneering birth control efforts. See ISIS Pushes Birth Control to Maintain Sex-Slave Supply.

During the year she was held by the Islamic State, she spent her days dreading the smell of the ISIS fighters breath, the disgusting sounds he made and the pain he inflicted on her body. More than anything, she was tormented by the thought she might become pregnant with her rapists child.

It was the one thing she neednt have worried about.

Soon after buying her, the fighter brought the teenage girl a round box containing four strips of pills, one of them colored red.

Every day, I had to swallow one in front of him. He gave me one box per month. When I ran out, he replaced it. When I was sold from one man to another, the box of pills came with me, explained the girl, who learned only months later that she was being given birth control.

It is a particularly modern solution to a medieval injunction: According to an obscure ruling in Islamic law cited by the Islamic State, a man must ensure that the woman he enslaves is free of child before having intercourse with her.

Are we surprised that ISIS is f***ed?

Not really, but I think it is worthwhile to make mention of just how deeply f***ed they truly are, lest some people get the impression that they're just some group with opposing views on political issues or that sort of thing. This isn't just anti-imperialism or so-on, this is full-on olden times barbarism.

So jbg is happy about the promotion of birth control by ISIS, but doesn't seem bothered by their holding sex slaves...

what an odd post...

I don't think there's anyone who honestly thinks that, save for people who literally support ISIS.

You know darn well I didn't say that and don't believe that. Stop with the personal attacks.

Who thinks that about ISIS?

I don't think there is any confusion about who ISIS is and what ISIS does. It's not like they have a PR team trying to downplay their despicable behaviour. If anything, they feed off of the fear that they have generated on what they're capable of doing.

When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always. Gandhi

It's not a personal attack to point out the omissions in your argument.

I think it was pretty clear that JBG was sarcastically applauding ISIS's "progressive" stance on birth control as a way of drawing attention to the fact that they are keeping captured women as sex slaves.

I'm really not sure it gets said enough.

If you listen to the news you get updates on events on the combat, but it's never mentioned what ISIS is all about. Certainly the information is out there, for people who are willing to read about it. But it's never on the news, perhaps it's not "news" because it's been known for a long time. If you got your information just from listening to the news, you might be under the impression that ISIS is just another army, albeit one that occasionally beheads its enemies and bulldozes statues.

Perhaps if we were in neighboring areas, the comment about fear giving them more power would be pertinent, but here in the west where people are wondering whether dropping bombs on these guys is a good use of taxpayer money, I think we should not miss an opportunity to point out what utter sewage ISIS are.

I don't disagree that ISIL is brutal, but its worth pointing out that women are targeted sexually in wars all around the world and always have been. Both as sexual slaves, and through the use of rape as a weapon.

Women's bodies have become part of the terrain of conflict, according to a new report by Amnesty International.

Rape and sexual abuse are not just a by-product of war but are used as a deliberate military strategy, it says.

The opportunistic rape and pillage of previous centuries has been replaced in modern conflict by rape used as an orchestrated combat tool.

And while Amnesty cites ongoing conflicts in Colombia, Iraq, Sudan, Chechnya, Nepal and Afghanistan, the use of rape as a weapon of war goes back much further.

As for opposing Canadian involvement in Iraq and Syria, I oppose it because its a stupid thing to do, not because I dont think ISIL is "sewage".

I question things because I am human. And call no one my father who's no closer than a stranger
