Revenue Canada sends you a statement, and you confirm.

I usually round file it myself.

As I sometimes say to my employees, "Please, just do your job right. That's all I ask."

A government is supposed to know who we all are, and collect taxes. To do it's job, as a minimum, that's all a government is supposed to do.

Well, it's never used a cell phone number with me yet. Is it supposed to?

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

People change their cell phone numbers all the time, so as a reliable method of tracking someone, its a bust. SIN numbers aren't changeable.

I strongly disagree.

With a cell/handy/phone number, the cell network wants a credit card number (even for pay-as-you-go). But even with a "burner", the provider knows where you are, who you phoned, what you texted.

Your SIN is 1970s technology - seemingly easy to emulate. Yet this old technology makes it hard to copy: at what age, where were you, when did you receive your SIN?

I have a cell phone, but no credit card. I've changed my phone number a couple of times. So sure a phone numbet and cell phone is trackable, but is not connected to a person in the way a SIN number or even a driver's license number is.

That isn't true. You can buy a cell phone as well as the minutes and data with cash and no ID at many gas stations and convenience stores. People who don't have credit cards, have no no credit history, or bad credit history do this all of the time.
