I'll be voting Conservative...

"Well, obviously there's no evidence. Why would they expose themselves if something is working? I mean, that seems like a no brainer to me."

Arrests are made public all the time.

"I was talking about the guy shot outside, not the guy shot by the Sergeant of Arms. I don't care who killed him, as long as somebody did."

So the security system already in place protected it as it was intended. It worked. There thus was no need for the massive perhaps unconstitutional power grab which followed.

Papen wasn't a National Socialist. He was a conservative enabler like Hindenberg. So no hyperbole.

"

And your lax on gun control statement is laughable, except for the fact that the multi billion dollar long gun registry boondoggle is too painful to laugh at. Billions making sure farmers had their prairie dog shooting boom sticks accounted for. Please."

Oh so noowwwwww the far righters are worried about wasting billions of dollars to protect people.

Could the hypocrisy be any more apparent??????????????????????

Have you tried using Firefox for the quote feature?

I never said he was a National Socialist. Please read my comment again. Yes, hyperbole.

Yes, I`m always worried about wasting billions on things that are clearly useless. The Liberal long gun registry is clearly that. It hasn`t saved a single life.

No hypocrisy.

So Drummin you must be absolutely appalled then that Harper spent a BILLION DOLLARS in ONE DAY on security for the G20. Correct?

First, that was for the G8 and G20 (3 is more than 1), and second, I believe it came in over 20% under budget.

The Mounties said their costs would hit $330-million, far from the $507-million budget, although Mr. Seguin cautioned the estimate was a ballpark figure.

With the RCMP spending less than anticipated, the total security bill for the summits would reach $750-million as long as Toronto Police, Ontario Provincial Police, the Canada Border Services Agency and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service stayed on budget, Mr. Seguin said.

Not to nit pick, but it was actually two days.

And clearly, the black bloc tactics and thuggery that prevailed, a billion wasn`t enough, was it.

That's it folks. A billion dollars or close to it wasn't enough spent for TWO DAYS. If that's not FISCAL CONSERVATISM from a conservative what is?

And you understand that actually wasn't the cost, I hope. Most countries only report additional costs. Canada includes already budgeted costs when already budgeted assets are used for something. $1B was the total cost, it wasn't an additional cost to the Canadian treasury.

We're bickering over the details of insanely huge amounts of money wasted for nothing. The fact is there were far more riot police there than were actual protestors and even if they were 20% underbudget in the end why was there A BILLION DOLLARS for TWO DAYS budgeted in the first place?

The current government in Ottawa is utterly INSANE and FISCALLY RECKLESS.

So - is your argument that Canada should never host a G8 or G20 conference? And why do you tie security to an INSANE and FISCALLY RECKLESS Ottawa? Clearly you didn't understand that much of the security money did not come out of the treasury....... but what you also fail to understand is that the majority of security spending was actually done by municipal and provincial law enforcement. Where is your venomous blathering towards Bill Blair and the McGuinty/Wynne gang?

But back to Springer's topic......

Many of my friends claim the Conservatives treatment of Indigenous peoples as one of the main reasons they refuse to vote PC. This is a great article showing that Harper is again leading by doing, not just throwing money at an untenable situation.

Not that I'm saying that our government is likely to be as systematically as vulgar as the gestapo, but massive total surveillance on Canadians due to the paranoia of a bunch of cowards who would have us live in a paranoia state like China or Eastern Europe in the 1950s over something that is less harmful to us than lightning strikes is a disgrace.

Let me guess. You're posting from under your bed, where you're hiding in fear of the terrible Harper coming to sing Beatles songs to you.

Canada's security processes and systems are far less extensive, and our laws offer far more protection than that of the US, UK, France, Germany and Australia. But to listen to these paranoid raving lefties Harper himself is listening in on their exiting phone calls ordering pizza or their dangerous emails asking others where they can find pirated movies to download.

Just a little bit gone off the rails, ya think, folks?

(My favorite was: ISIS inspired terrorists - no big deal. Duck hunters with guns - now that's scary! You guys never disappoint, eh? Even managed to invoke a little Nazism.)

Anyway...

I'm starting to think this is going to be one of those elections where the silent majority has the final say.

For all the wailing and gnashing of teeth calling for opening the floodgates to as many refugees as possible, it is my hunch that probably half the country is not on this same page. Couple recent online polls at CTV certainly suggested as much.

Security is a major issue for Canadians. And, clearly, only one leader understands that.

Security is a major issue for SOME Canadians. Not all. I for one feel perfectly safe and always have with or without Harper and all his bills. No one is coming after me. I'm not that important and neither are you or anyone else on this forum. You should feel safe in your insignificance more than anything Harper will do for you.

In the Liberal maritimes, where the LIberals are forecast a clean sweep, 63% don't want more refugees.

Honestly, I'm surprised by those numbers.

edit:now at 66% against. Number may vary from posted due to new votes

I completely concur. I'm not falling for Harper's empty rhetoric about needing him to protect me from, well, whatever it is he thinks we need protecting from. Let's get rid of him, rid of his C 51, and get his nose to hell out of our emails.

He'll be gone. I travel frequently from BC through Alberta all the way to Western Manitoba. I see more support for every other party but the Conservatives. I have no doubt in my mind that if they are done out West, they are done period.

Michael...

I wouldn't be too hasty with that assumption.

The more the NDP and LPC leaders entrench themselves in an open floodgate approach, in stark contrast to security screening/back checking caution taken by the CPC, the more of a deal breaker this becomes for voters.

Europe is quickly becoming a powder keg looking for a place to happen.

And five weeks is an eternity in politics.

Recent poll on CTV's main site...

How can Canada best address the migrant crisis?

Accepting more refugees 1528 (23 %)

Fighting Islamic State 3580 (55 %)

Sending aid 1415 (22 %)

And the immediately following poll...

After seeing the haunting image of the drowned boy, do you feel more compelled to help?

Yes 2392 (32 %)

No 5099 (68 %)

Well we all saw what Alberta did to the cons. provincially. And this time it looks like the federal election won't be over until it's over in BC., and it certainly isn't Harper friendly.
