jacee Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 (edited) Anyone dumb enough to believe teachers go to an Irish pub or go golfing on ProD days is delusional. Fairy tales are entertaining.Unfortunately, he's telling the truth. And such teachers and principals make all teachers look bad. They should be reported. . Edited April 19, 2015 by jacee Quote
Hydraboss Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 Jacee, I agree they should be reported. The problem, in my board jurisdiction anyway, is the Superintendent of the board doesn't give a damn. I know. I went to the board office and talked with him one on one. He simply brushed it off - didn't deny it, just wouldn't comment on it one way or the other. I had some fantastic teachers growing up. One is still teaching (get this - my grade 6 teacher also taught my son and my daughter grade 6...25 and 26 years later). Until a couple of years ago, I kept in contact with two of them and guess what? They were pretty disappointed with the way the "new kids" are teaching too. It's enough to break your heart when you see these clowns out doing this in full public view. Why they wouldn't just go to someone's basement and drink beer I'll never know. Please describe the way the "new kids" are teaching. What in the world does that mean? You probably think sitting at a desk, not collaborating, and doing long division worksheets is a good use of time. Quote Thankful to have become a free thinker.

Jacee, I have seen none of this. I see dedicated professionals being forced to deal with more and more each day. Quote Thankful to have become a free thinker.
Hydraboss Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 I was dealing with the teaching profession when you were riding your first bmx bike. This has been happening for ages. I would assume in ever single jurisdiction there is. The comment about how new teachers are teaching includes everything from "new math" to answering text messages in class to being generally unprofessional (drinking in a pub during pd days would fall into this category in case you were googling it on your smart phone...ahem...make believe "teachers' aid). Quick - post a link to a teacher's twitter feed or something to back up your side of the argument Quote "racist, intolerant, small-minded bigot" - AND APPARENTLY A SOCIALIST (2010) (2015)Economic Left/Right: 8.38 3.38 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 3.13 -1.23

Quick - post a link to a teacher's twitter feed or something to back up your side of the argument I have never heard of teachers answering text messages in class unless they were expecting texts from a parent. Parents use texts to communicate with teachers in the 21st century. Maybe you are unaware, but the 1960s are over. Also, what is your definition of "new" math. You just hear terms from teacher bashers and then pretend to be an expert. We can all make anecdotal statements. I';m in the trenches and witness everyday the professionalism and dedication of teachers. Some people have nothing better to do with their time so they become teacher bashing trolls. Hydraboss Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 Lots of teachers answer personal text messages right at the front of class, which is why students don't get in trouble for doing the same. This has nothing to do with the 1960s...if they want to answer texts, maybe they should wait until between classes just like REAL PEOPLE DO during meetings. You know, like in the real world. Where people work. And for the record, I don't hear anything from the "teacher bashers". I am a teacher basher. Not a troll though - moved out from under the education bridge long ago. jacee Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 And that has what, exactly, to do with teachers "pd days" where they do anything except "professional development" and a strike? Nothing, that's what. A once-noble profession has been destroyed by self-serving individuals.Tell that to your "self-serving" relatives ... who make all teachers look bad. :/ Quote
Hydraboss Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 So this poses a question in my mind....if you are a teacher, how WOULD YOU see other teachers answering text messages during class? If you, in fact, witnessing them NOT answering text messages that would indicate that you were present in their classroom during class. Logically, it would follow that if you WERE in their classroom during class...........that would make you a student. Hmmm. Hydraboss Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 Tell that to your "self-serving" relatives ... who make all teachers look bad. :/ Oh, believe me I have. My wife's mother was also a teacher and her father was a teacher/principal in both AB and BC for his entire working life. This is the reason I don't communicate at all with her family anymore. They disgust me. Quote "racist, intolerant, small-minded bigot" - AND APPARENTLY A SOCIALIST (2010) (2015)Economic Left/Right: 8.38 3.38 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 3.13 -1.23

Hydraboss Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 As for "understanding professionalism" - in my profession we have to carry our phones 24/7. That being said, if anyone's phone rings or beeps during a meeting, the "offender" has to throw $20 on the table. There's usually a hundred or so in the pot by the end of a half-day meeting, and it gets donated to a childrens' charity. We've always done this voluntarily. If you have to answer your phone, you leave the room before doing so. Hydraboss Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 Teachers don't text in class. Patently false. Period. Here's the best link you could ever hope for - parents, go ask your high school aged teenagers if their teachers ever text in class. Hydraboss Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 My evidence is every bit as strong as.....yours.....that you're a teacher. Anyways, this is becoming a major thread drift. Back on topic. Will the teachers strike? Yup, but only if they can hold students and parents hostage during the school year. If they don't get their strike mandate together before July 1, they won't do it. Until September. When they can hold students and parents hostage again. I think some teachers are going on strike tomorrow. There are still just as many awesome teachers, and teaching is changing in ways that may not be palatable to the 'elders' who went before. The majority who do their job well shouldn't be dragged down by the shirkers. Sometimes there is a local 'culture' of that, and it should be addressed. . Quote
