TimG Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 The evidence speaks for itself. I've been saying this for a long time here, but few people on this forum want to discuss facts. Well, this research article proves that I was right once again. Most professionals have a salary and are judged based on meeting objectives not by the number of hours worked. This also means most professionals end up doing lots of unpaid overtime and might get time off in lieu of overtime (sort of like the 2 month holiday teachers get). BTW: The study in question compared teachers to other *workers* - not professionals which makes your post topic a lie. Quote

Ash74 Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 Uhm.....This is a U.K. report written by a very biased opinion. It is lacking what a work week in the U.K for teachers is. How many professional days are given. What the rate of pay is and benefits compared to Canadian teachers. We have discussed the amount of time worked till we are all suffering from raw fingers. there are many opinions but we all agree it is pretty close when you take in the summer vacation factor plus one of the most envied pensions around. guyser Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 NOt sure of any relevance since the article plainly states that it includes teaching assistants, playground staff, cleaners and caretakers. So likely , and probably the majority of the extra hours , the increase is due to the maintenance staff. But just to confirm, this certainly says nothing of the teachers themselves being the hard working nonovertime group some delusional person wants us to think.More than any other profession........ Quote
Ash74 Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 Yeah this was a bust. Bad research all around. Quote “Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. The_Squid Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 U.K.? Who cares what a report says about teachers in U.K.? Completely irrelevant to Canada! Quote
socialist Posted March 3, 2015 Author Report Posted March 3, 2015 U.K.? Who cares what a report says about teachers in U.K.? Completely irrelevant to Canada! It's relevant because educators in the UK don't work as hard as educators in Canada. Quote Thankful to have become a free thinker.

Ash74 Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 It's relevant because educators in the UK don't work as hard as educators in Canada. So older teachers are lazy and UK teachers have it easy. So how long till you hate all teachers because you are knocking them of pretty quick. Quote “Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. socialist Posted March 3, 2015 Author Report Posted March 3, 2015 Do you have proof of that claim? As a Canadian educator, I know how many hours I put into this job, along with all my colleagues. On Guard for Thee Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 Is there not another thread about teachers working overtime? Pretty sure there is or was. Something sounds terribly redundant here. This one seems to have been shot down a lot quicker. Quote

Ash74 Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 So you've been a teacher in the U.K? He is not a teacher. Best guess. Mighty AC Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 (edited) NOt sure of any relevance since the article plainly states that it includes teaching assistants, playground staff, cleaners and caretakers. So likely , and probably the majority of the extra hours , the increase is due to the maintenance staff. Maintenance staff and EA's put in next to zero extra time. Secretary OT varies on job type and commitment level, but teachers, in general, put in a fair amount of extra time. IMO, the OT and volunteer time is part of the job. I get tired of people like the character Socialist is portraying. I have no patience for young teachers, with no other life or career experience, who chose this profession and then complain. If the job is too tough, shut up and move on to something else. There are many others who willingly put in that extra time because it makes a difference and that's what they set out to do.
