The U.S. was forged in weeks of debate among some of the most intelligent people in the world, in 1776 (the Declaration of Independence) and 1787 (the Constitution). Your equivalents?

We may not have a declaration of Independence but we don't need one, yet. We have a Constitution, A Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

I don't know what you're trying to prove here?

“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find your way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. You put it into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”

The Charter of Rights and Freedoms indeed exists. It's protections are as solid as Swiss cheese. All rights are "subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society." And the notorious "notwithstanding" clause traded for Quebec's joining the Charter's ratification. Oops that never happened. Or the protection of property rights. Oops again.

You are an American telling us our rights? Do I have that correct?

Tell that to Stephen Harper. He has tried to mess with the "swiss cheese" at least 3 times so far and the SCC shut him down each time. I think it's more like cheddar cheese.

As if we don't get lectured enough on here? There are some Americans who routinely trash Canada. Not me.

haha that's laughable your own Presidents violate your constitution, the person elected to uphold it. As On Guard For Thee has stated our PM has tried to get around it numerous times and failed.

I never said the U.S. was perfect. Far from it. The U.S., followed closely by Canada, Israel, Australia, New Zealand and the U.K. are simply the greatest countries in the world. Life is good.

I will agree with you on 5 out of 6 of those.

Let's see if I guess right. You hate Jews and thus Israel?

I like jews. But disliking Israel does not make me an anti-semite no more than disliking the DPRK makes me anti-korean. I just think their leadership needs some adjustments.

Given the history, there really is no distinction between Jew hatred and hatred of Israel.

LOL

This is laughable and idiotic.

That means you'd be willing to live with the consequences of doing nothing and let ISIS run rampant over the Middle East. The situation is different today than it was in 2003....but at least you've made your position clear. That's all anyone can ask.

No the situation isnt really that different. In fact this is the same insurgency that the US failed to defeat during the aftermath of operation: Oops!

Put quite simply... this is the same war we were smart enough to stay out of the first time.

ISIL's main headquarters, from all I've read, are in Syria. That's where it's getting its recruits and equipment. It's true some of the originals came across as volunteers from Iraq among other places, but the group was spawned in Syria's civil war.

No, and thats the scary thing. Youre all up in arms cheering on military action when you dont even have a basic grasp of the facts. ISIL was not "spawned during the syrian civil war". They are ISI.... founded In Iraq in 2006. They formally announced their expansion into Syra in april 2013 and added an "L" onto the end of their name.

This is still the aftermath of the 2003 invasion. The US achieved a measure of success by putting these guys on the payroll... but the Iraqi government stopped paying them and now they are back.

Canada got tricked into trying to clean up the mess resulting in the 2003 invasion. This is still the same war, and we arent going to have any more success stopping the Sunni insurgency than we did the first time around.

Wow... that pretty much says it all. In the mind of an abject simpleton there can be no critisism of the nation-state of Irsael by anyone that doesnt hate jews.

You realize that you were actually stupid enough to say that right?

No, there are a lot of ways around or over many of the protections in the Charter of Rights. Harper simply has not chosen to make use of them.
