At the age of 39, he was the youngest member of the Senate. From February 2006 until January 2009 he held the position of national chief of the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples. It has been downhill from there.

Patrick Brazeau’s legal problems are compounding as he faces five new criminal charges – including assault and cocaine possession – that have increased the odds that he will eventually be expelled from the Senate and probably spend some time in jail.

In a short appearance yesterday, the 39-year-old walked into a courtroom in handcuffs, with a slight limp, and pleaded not guilty to all charges against him. The Crown prosecutor objected but Brazeau was let out on bail – with certain restrictions.

Two years ago, he was the photogenic golden boy, shining example of aboriginal achievement, predicted to have a glowing future in both federal politics and aboriginal issues.

What happened?

Harper Conservatives screwed the pooch in making the appointment... the personal testaments provided by Harper simply reinforce Brazeau was nothing more than a token attempt to garner favour with aboriginals.

And perhaps the aboriginal community sees that and now Harper needs C23 to keep them out of the polling booths. Sounds like conspiracy theory I know, but it holds more water than the MH 370 ones I have heard of late.

Harper gave a up and coming native lad a chance and he blew it. Harper tried and brazeau failed. Nothing wrong in that.

Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.
