It's a legal strike.

You can't fire them.

.

It's been done before. It can be done again. You walk off the job, you're saying you don't WANT the job. Besides that, you don't have to officially fire them, all you have to do is replace them and leave them on strike forever.

Ummm, 'massage' is interchangeable with 'massage therapy'. Nobody is talking about the other massage, the one with 'happy ending'.

By way of comparison, my wifes very large teachers local in Alberta also gets money for massage as a benefit. $1000 annual limit, receipts from a licensed therapist required.

Actually it is! Any doctor will sign off on a massage, it just has to someone registered

The classifieds often have ads for registered massage therapists actually do the "other kind" of massage (complete with receipt), because it's more lucrative.

I guess i could go through $3000 quite quickly if that was the case.

It's not an assumption.

Every BC MLA govt has a sworn duty to represent taxpayers.

For once they are doing their jobs. I applaud them and hope they don't buckle as usual.

No, they have a sworn duty to represent British Columbians who include children who don't pay taxes.

BC (along with Ont. and Alb.) has the highest ranked school system in Canada. I hardly think anyone is suffering under the current system.

http://www.conferenceboard.ca/hcp/provincial/education.aspx

British Columbia is the top-performing province, ranking third overall (behind Japan and Finland). B.C. earns an “A+” on high-school attainment, doing better than the top-ranked international peer on this indicator, the United States. Given that high-school attainment is a necessary precursor to post-secondary education, it is not surprising that the province is a strong performer on college attainment (“A”) and university attainment (“B”). B.C. also performs well on student skills, scoring an “A+” for its low share of students with inadequate reading, and “A”s for its low shares of students with inadequate math and science skills and for its large share of students with high-level science skills.

Wonderful, they are doing such a great job they should get less as opposed to the Translink CEO who just got an 85K bonus for trains that don't run and a Compass Card system that doesn't work.

Well, I don't know anything about translink except that they don't have 40,000 CEO's. Otherwise this is just a red herring...isn't it?

Another deflection! Few people question that they should have a raise, the issue is; class size and composition - remember?

Geez, I thought it was all about greedy teachers and 3K massages.

BTW, it was the whole head shed. Their salaries were supposed to be frozen at 2012 levels but not their bonus' and bennys apparently. More govt math.

if the teachers were offered their 8% increase and fewer days worked I think they'd take it and be back to work. Its the BCTF driving this increase of teachers. I think theTF is using the teachers. Teachers don't have a problem with the current class sizes and neither do the students.

In Fact; Maybe the government should offer the teachers $3000 per student in their class, then we'd see just how many students the teachers can teach.

If we have 3 million legitimate tax payers, then $1.5Billion extra dollars is gonna cost each of us $6-700 per year. Now, the low income people won't pay as much - of course, So those of us working, fuel, drink a little beer, pay auto ins. and own homes can easily see this as topping $800 per year - easily.

Oh, and to add to this, it's not simply hiring of more teachers. Since most of the schools are at capacity, it also means paying for and maintaining (more) portable classrooms. It means more EA's because now the kids are more spread out, and it means higher custodial expenses.

I see, we have a top ranked system and you are looking for ways to destroy it. Cram as many kids as you can, who gives a crap if they get educated.

Hey...yesterday you were offended and said you didn't have a side, but today, you're sure on BCTF wagon.

You do realize the blame for the impasse over class falls mainly on teachers? If the BCTF has simply accepted the governments reasonable wage package and stated that the only thing it wanted to negotiate was class size then they would have likely got a deal. The only reason school is out is because the BCTF does not really care about kids - what they care about is their pocket books. Edited by TimG

I just think it is such a huge hoot that you so called free enterpriser would post an article that indicated our education system was one of the best out there and use it as an excuse not to reward the most important people in it. I just about choked.

But, you do realize that there are different issues at play here...right?

It's not hypocritical as in the BCTF and the NDP claiming that Christy Clark has destroyed our economy, only to turn around and ask for a bigger raise based on the provincial GDP.

It's hypocritical as hell. I really don't have a side in this, mainly because I really don't know what the hell ia going on. I am trying to put forward a few alternatives to some of the completely one sided positions you and others are taking.
