The_Squid Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 French is not a compulsory subject at schools throughout Canada... Yes it is. It just isn't done very well. The problem is that it is not an emersion program. Students actually learn very little, which is shameful. A bilingual country should teach students both languages right from the start to the end of schooling. What we have now is just a waste of time. Quote
Guest Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 lol Like I said... sensitive.. I'm not concerned with people speaking another language. I hang with some Chinese folks... they always sound like they're angry... At least in French I could pick up a few words! My social skills are good enough that I don't sit in the corner and brood if something other than English is being spoken. Like he said, and I said, it's just manners. If you're not sensitive to rude people and bad manners then bully for you. Really. Me, I like good manners. Quote

Argus Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Yes it is. It just isn't done very well. The problem is that it is not an emersion program. Students actually learn very little, which is shameful. A bilingual country should teach students both languages right from the start to the end of schooling. What we have now is just a waste of time. Putting that much time and effort into teaching French is a waste of time if it will not be used. Even those who go through French immersion programs from an early age lose their language skills soon after graduation if they don't have the opportunity to regularly make use of them. So teaching kids in BC to speak French is just foolish. Is it possible you just don't know much about good manners? As for 'overly sensitive' let me ask you this. Would you continue to come here if this forum was almost entirely in French -- which you don't understand, or would you go elsewhere? The_Squid Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Is it possible you just don't know much about good manners? No. As for 'overly sensitive' let me ask you this. Would you continue to come here if this forum was almost entirely in French -- which you don't understand, or would you go elsewhere? Life is not an Internet forum. The analogy makes no sense. Quote
PIK Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 (edited) As of today the orderly or the hospital have not apologized to the family for what happened and nothing really happened to the orderly.
