Guest Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 Breast ironing! Who would've thought, eh? http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/breast-ironing-girls-have-chests-flattened-out-to-disguise-the-onset-of-puberty-8842435.html My God there's some barbarians out there. Mighty AC Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 "The mutilation is a traditional practice from Cameroon designed to deter unwanted male attention, pregnancy and rape by delaying the signs that a girl is becoming a woman." - How very sad. Bonam Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 (edited) If you can imagine something barbaric and torturous and evil, chances are it in fact happens somewhere in the world and is a "cultural practice". Perhaps the most disturbing part of the article: “I was contacted by a police officer who arrested a lady for breast ironing her daughter. There was a discussion of what the laws were and in the end they released her because it was a cultural practice. That's in the UK, and Canada is headed down the exact same path. There is absolutely no excuse to condone this kind of mutilation. Edited September 27, 2013 by Bonam Quote
Michael Hardner Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 That said, the description of what happened in the UK case is curious, if not disturbing. But it lacks details too. I don't think you can say that Canada is headed down the same path. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner
bleeding heart Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 I agree, it's repellent. Quote “There is a limit to how much we can constantly say no to the political masters in Washington. All we had was Afghanistan to wave. On every other file we were offside. Eventually we came onside on Haiti, so we got another arrow in our quiver." --Bill Graham, Former Canadian Foreign Minister, 2007
Guest Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 What surprised me was, unlike female circumcision, this was the first time I ever heard of this practice. Is it just because it is now starting to happen in the West? Quote
