jbg Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 Some people are determined, at any cost, to find the West wrong. To those people I ask: What is the state of gay rights in these idyllic non-Western countries?; What is the state of women's rights in these idyllic non-Western countries?; What is the state of the rights of religious or racial minorities in these idyllic non-Western countries?; What is the state of the rights of political dissidents in these idyllic non-Western countries?; and How does the average domestic dog fare in these idyllic non-Western countries? When you start looking at those, you start to wonder whose side you should be on. Lots of folks long for a world not dominated by the United States. They might get their wish. Then they can be dominated by somebody else. Those people should be careful what they wish for. Being ruled by Shabab may not be so great. Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location? The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).

When you start looking at those, you start to wonder whose side you should be on. And where in the world was I talking about "idyllic non-Western countries"? You object to Western nations--or perhaps only a few of them, this is unclear--being criticized as accountable for anything they do. Noted. Why I should give a rat's ass about anyone's perversely misplaced sense of nationalist loyalty, you have yet to make plain. bleeding heart Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 Perhaps declare yourself a freeman. It's all the rage. Well, if it must be a binary, then the other side is "Commissar." Also a popular stance. Quote “There is a limit to how much we can constantly say no to the political masters in Washington. All we had was Afghanistan to wave. On every other file we were offside. bud Posted September 27, 2013 Author Report Posted September 27, 2013 an encouraging day. iran's foreign minister appeared quite upbeat after a chat with kerry, that was quite visible. The P5+1 discussed the "parameters of the end-game" zarif said, which is critical as the step by step process has suffered from a sense of direction without this conversation. and Kerry later said that sanctions can be lifted quickly, indicating that obama will finally use his waiver rights, if all goes well. kudos to the EU, iranian and u.s. diplomats who made good progress, though much remains to be done of course. still, never seen all side use such respectful and positive language. needless to say, the demandeurs of war on all sides will quickly come out with their knifes. watch the senate sanctions bill shortly. never before has it been so important to defend and protect the diplomatic process. Still it was a dumb statement and remains so. Quote

GostHacked Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 As you have conceded--after some Herculean effort on my part, I modestly add--the US too has used proxy terrorist groups, and with some pretty devastating consequences. And yet you feel the need to "stick up for them," do you not? Flawless. Quote

DogOnPorch Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 DIA (doggy's intelligence agency) has gone against the findings of pentagon and the intelligence agencies around the world by claiming that iran has ICBMs. Iran has several ICBM programs. Both solid and liquid powered boosters. Naturally, you want to disseminate from this as an Iranian cheerleader. None-the-less, Iran is perfecting MIRV technology and the range of their rockets. I don't expect you to understand orbital mechanics, but once you can place something in orbit, you can hit anywhere on the planet. How much payload you can put on the target is the question. Modern thermonuclear weapons can weigh as little as 350lbs in the case of the American's W76. I find it interesting that the only way you can refute these facts is personal attacks. You must not have much faith in your own position. I guess when Iran does get its nukes you can blame it on Israel as you do with everything else. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.

guyser Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 This thread is ABOUT Iran. Fair enough, but considering Shabaab are centred in Somalia....the question remains. Considering theres only 14,000 (at least measure) I still am not losing sleep. Quote
DogOnPorch Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 the DIA continues to claim that iran has ICBMs but has yet to provide any evidence. They most certainly have several working programs. With each model, range and payload increases. Fair enough, but considering Shabaab are centred in Somalia....the question remains. Considering theres only 14,000 (at least measure) I still am not losing sleep. Shahab is an Iranian ballistic missile. Probably where the confusion came from.
