Topaz Posted September 16, 2013 Report Posted September 16, 2013 (edited) Yes, Canada has it's own BB watching, reading and listening to every Canadian on the net and probably cell phone. The wireless companies make deal with the Feds. YOU give US what we want and WE will give you what you want and so BB is busy doing its job. I can understand they want to catch the "bad guys" and my understanding is they key in on certains words, like in Canada it would be Harper, goverment, guns, attacks, etc. So, does it bother you that BB may be invading your private thoughts on your cell or online? http://www.theglobeandmail.com/technology/mobile/out-of-sight-officials-tell-wireless-firms-to-let-them-monitor-devices-data/article14331615/ Edited September 16, 2013 by Topaz Quote
Moonlight Graham Posted September 16, 2013 Report Posted September 16, 2013 (edited) From the article: Wireless carriers are told they must be ready to hand over such data should police or intelligence agencies compel the release of the information through judicially authorized warrants. Such information goes well beyond traditional wiretaps, and also includes phone logs and keystrokes. ... Canadian carriers say they support the need to supply surveillance information. “Telus fully supports law enforcement’s need to carry out interception of communications with a properly executed court warrant,” said company spokesman Shawn Hall, before adding that Telus “will challenge court orders we think overreach.” ... Still, federal privacy officials say they are concerned by the lack of transparency surrounding the accord. ... Any firm taking part in a wireless auction can obtain a copy, but the contents are not available to the general public. I'm glad a warrant is needed to obtain any data, but given what's been happening in the US I have to wonder about any abuse and unlawfulness of this program that we don't or won't know about. All of these agreements should therefore be transparent. I know that may hurt surveillance capabilities but frankly I don't care. I don't trust the police, the RCMP, CSIS, (edit: or the Harper government on privacy matters, see: Vic Toews) or any communications companies whatsoever on this. GostHacked Posted September 17, 2013 Report Posted September 17, 2013 Yeah but will they get a warrant? Quote
