kimmy Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 Leaked by the National Transportation Safety Board. Should the station have broadcast this information? You be the judge: I assume that these names were leaked to the station by Haywood Jablomie. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
The_Squid Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 Oh boy..... That's really really really bad reporting..... Quote

GostHacked Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 It's funny but not appropriate for a 'reputable' news station. This is the kind of thing for SNL and the likes of that show. Quote

Bryan Posted July 13, 2013 Report Posted July 13, 2013 The funny part is, even in their subsequent apology, the station still insist that the NTSB provided them with those names. Quote

This is how modern journalism works. Sources are not vetted and the info not verified. However, this should have been obvious to someone that it was a joke and not put it on the air. Which makes this all that much sadder. Quote
Guest American Woman Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 The funny part is, even in their subsequent apology, the station still insist that the NTSB provided them with those names. An intern at NTSB did confirm the names. Campbell's apology followed by one day an apology by the National Transportation Safety Board for the "inaccurate and offensive" names that were erroneously confirmed by a summer intern. "Earlier today, in response to an inquiry from a media outlet, a summer intern acted outside the scope of his authority when he erroneously confirmed the names of the flight crew on the aircraft," the NTSB said Friday in a statement. http://www.cnn.com/2013/07/12/travel/asiana-offensive-names/ Quote
The_Squid Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 Wow... The intern should be terminated... And it is astounding how stupid anyone at the tv station is who read these names and still let it get reported on air. Quote

And it is astounding how stupid anyone at the tv station is who read these names and still let it get reported on air. Their mindset wasn't on the possibility of it being a joke, and I thought that the way the newscaster was so deliberately reading the names that her concentration was not on the names themselves, but just in saying them. It should have been so unbelievably obvious from where we stand, but I wonder how many people listening to the newscast didn't catch on, either; it would be interesting to know. The intern is a student volunteer, and NTSB has not said whether or not he was fired; only that appropriate action was taken so something like this won't happen again. I agree with you that he should have been relieved of his position. Quote
Scotty Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 Freaking hilarious! Quote It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy
