Pliny Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 If you've seen the latest cover of Vogue magazine you've seen that claim. Where is America being inspired? I don't see it. Barack has inspired the left in Hollywood and a few other socialites I suppose, maybe some progressives that want bigger government but on the whole America doesn't appear to be inspired. Main street remains in the doldrums with high unemployment (and if you believe the 7.7 figure I've got a bridge for sale..), record numbers on food stamps, gas prices doubled since he took office, lack of transparency from the White House, the shrinking middle class, the divisive nature of the White House administration, an economy propped up with constant injections of dollars benefiting the well-positioned on Wall Street and Washington - who I'm sure are inspired. But how about America? Have they had anything happen that is inspiring lately? Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.
bush_cheney2004 Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 Not sure what you mean, as America was 'inspired' by President Obama's very election to office back in 2008. Political and economic realities have eroded some of the initial (and in some cases very naive) expectations, but America marches on, just as it has before. Just surviving and emerging from the recession on the other side in one piece is also 'inspiring' for some. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

bush_cheney2004 Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 It's a great example of the sycophantic lame stream media. Yes, but not in the way you may think. America's dominating media engines (something that Canadians are well aware of) stream many layers of content that quite often is consumed in quantities inversely proportional to importance. Sports programming, celebrity culture, reality TV, even cat videos on YouTube inspire more than seasonal politics and associated 'leaders'. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

U.S. taxpayers, if only because they also pay the President's salary and those of all supporting functions. No big deal unless they fly an armoured limo to India, right ? It makes you wonder if some people on the here were hoping we would get killed over there. Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.
Guest American Woman Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 Who's paying for the big 50th for the wife, another big show with the celebs. I would assume we are. Happy birthday, Michelle! Quote

roy baty Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 Yes, the President who has inspired America! lol. Oprah inspires more people than the Obamas. Maybe she should run for office in 2016.. Crazy thing is... She'd probably win! Quote
Pliny Posted March 16, 2013 Author Report Posted March 16, 2013 Not sure what you mean, as America was 'inspired' by President Obama's very election to office back in 2008.Right. It signified the beginning of the end of racism in America. You would think the Democrats would put that puppy to bed. Unfortunately, for them it was an opportunity to play the race card. Political and economic realities have eroded some of the initial (and in some cases very naive) expectations, but America marches on, just as it has before. Just surviving and emerging from the recession on the other side in one piece is also 'inspiring' for some.Except you haven't emerged yet, as political and economic realities erode the initial expectations, in your words. CPAC is inspiring. Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.
bush_cheney2004 Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 (edited) Right. It signified the beginning of the end of racism in America. You would think the Democrats would put that puppy to bed. Unfortunately, for them it was an opportunity to play the race card. 2008's election just falls on a much longer American 'racism' continuum. Identity politics occurs at many other levels besides 'race'. Except you haven't emerged yet, as political and economic realities erode the initial expectations, in your words. CPAC is inspiring. No....America has emerged and is well into the next cycle. Another recession will soon be overdue. Frankly, the 1970's was far more difficult in that respect.
