I read a column in today's Sun that contested that in Calgary-Centre the vote count for the opposition (LCP, NDP, Greens) were about the same as in 2011. What changed was the plummeting support for the CPC.

Since the Liberals numbers weren't improved much, the plummeting support for the CPC can be more attributed to apathy and the war between Red Tories that support Redford and the Wildrose Reformers.

Alberta Tories better get their shet together before 2015, I don't want to see a Wildrose-like party running nationally eating away at CPC support.

Proportional Representation is the best solution to the divide and conquer tactics of the right.

Were you as critical of the system when the LPC were winning consecutive majorities because the right-wing parties were separated?

Yes, I never voted for the LPC.

Looks like harper is in good shape. Justin is going to peak about 2 years to early. So far he has shown that he is emptied headed and very imature. I was worried for a moment, but now with garneau in the race , it will make libs look pretty stupid to go and still have a coranation of trudeau. Trudeau's actions so far makes me think, he has already picked out the furniture for the PMO. He will ripped this country apart, by giong back to the old days shoving quebec down our throats all over again. And I believe there will be liberals jumping ship to the cons over trudeau. People say it is time to move forward into the future, well trudeau will be going back in time.

Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.

Which just happens to be the majority of the population.

Its the best solution for democracy.

If PR was best for the democracy then why was proposing using a form of it defeated convincingly in the 2007 Ontario Election. That's democracy in action right there. There's no appetite for a system where those elected don't actually represent an actual constituency. A member that's elected based on a list of preferred members of a party is more patronage than it is a mandate.

Democracy doesn't prevent the people from voting against democracy.

My preferred version of PR is one that includes constituencies.

It is as follows;

Voting is based on proportional Representation.

Voting is done by riding.

The total number of seats will be divided by the overall percentages of votes for each party, and seats will be allotted based on those. Should an independent receive the highest vote percentage in a riding, then the independent will be given a seat federally.

The seats are allotted per party based on the party members who received the most votes, or alternatively the highest percentage of votes from their ridings. (All ridings will be divided nationally so as to have the same number of voters.)

An added preference:

All MPs can put forth bills and all MPs vote on them. Cabinet positions are chosen first by nomination for position requiring a certain set number of signatures, and finally by vote by all the members.

A complaint I have about current constituencies iss that district maps are drawn up arbitrarily sometimes intentionally Machiavellian in the way they are created so as to optimize a party's elected members. They ensure uneven electoral victories often based on the arbitrary lines on a map.

Again, your only one seat awat from the communist party having a say... one seat less than the green party. your version of democracy ROCKS!
