The_Squid Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 (edited) ...the website was conceived, planned and executed by legislature staff in Victoria, who used the taxpayer-financed government computer network to do the Liberal party’s political dirty work. It’s a clear and brazen contravention of the government’s own code of conduct for legislature staff, who have now received a “verbal reminder” not to do it again. And that’s it. No reprimands. No notes on their files. Just a slap on the wrist for wasting precious taxpayer resources on the Liberal party’s character assault against their political enemies. Read more: http://www.theprovin...l#ixzz2CnBgNZje These staffers should be suspended and docked pay at the very least. Certainly the politicians know that this is going on. This is why they hire these people. Not to do government jobs, but to do the work of the BC Liberal Party campaigning. Add another reason to the long list of kicking these arrogant SOB's out of office. Edited November 20, 2012 by The_Squid Quote
Merlin Posted November 30, 2012 Report Posted November 30, 2012 I see nothing wrong going on here. BC Liberals are in power and they pay some other Liberals to do the work of the government. Sounds all pretty normal to me. Quote

Merlin Posted November 30, 2012 Report Posted November 30, 2012 This isn't gov't business, it's Liberal party business. If the Liberals are in power it's one and the same I think, isn't it? All the money is all in one big pot, right? That's why parties want to get elected isn't it? Quote

Merlin Posted November 30, 2012 Report Posted November 30, 2012 They can't use taxpayer paid resources or time to do political party work. But they did. I don't see how it's possible to separate the two things. Since any work done by the government can also be seen as doing work for the party. I don't see it as being cut and dry. Quote

Those are the rules, and in this case it's really clear that they're doing political work. It's also true that it's often abused, particularly by political staff - campaign volunteers hired to government positions by winning candidates. And it should be exposed every time. Quote

Smallc Posted December 9, 2012 Report Posted December 9, 2012 Why do they do these things? The NDP is totally going to win the next BC election, and in reality, they shouldn't even stand a chance. Quote

That's why parties want to get elected isn't it? Are you serious? Government money is the public's money and is meant to be used for the public good. When someone is elected, it is like we are hiring them to administer the money on our behalf. If they use it for their own political ends, that is a misuse, almost like stealing. It's like if you were hired to manage a company's finances and spend company money (not your own salary) on yourself. Quote
