Such is the way of our non competitive roles for kids that we pretend they don't know there's always a winner , always losers, and that giving everyone a trphy changes nothing in young minds if there's real competition. And, if there isn't real competition it's not sport, it's playtime. If it's playtime, give both sides a ball, a puck, and lose the hoops.nets and home plate. Dare I add no zeros either? Excerpt. One Saturday morning this summer, four Ontario soccer teams squared off for a total of eight games, pitting players dressed in red, navy, orange and black jerseys against one another as they vied for … nothing. There were no ribbons or trophies because this was a soccer festival — not a tournament — and the emphasis was on fun and skills development, not winning. There were no standings, either, because nobody kept score. Supposedly. “We, as I know it, won the festival,” said John Savoie, who coached his daughter’s Under 8 team in Barrie this past season. “We won each of our games, 4-0 both times, and I know none of the other teams did that well…. The girls were happy, sure. They all love winning.” It turns out they also have a penchant for score-keeping. During the regular season, which was also officially scoreless, Mr. Savoie said he frequently heard girls calling out on the field, “It’s 1-0! It’s 2-0! We’re winning!” Ontario coaches Jason Faria, Jon Goodall and Tim Tigchelaar also heard their young players shouting out scores on newly “scoreless” pitches this past season, and all three maintained soccer still had its winners and losers — and, importantly, that the girls were well aware of it. It is a non-competative league ergo scores are not important. The kids sure tried to keep score and sure tried to score goals - most of them. But the point wasn't to win it was to impart basic soccer skills. Those kids that enjoy the game tend to sign up for the competitive leagues later. And nobody was trying to crush anyones competitive spirit or lecturing them on the joys of dronehood. Quote A bayonet is a tool with a worker at both ends
kraychik Posted September 28, 2012 Report Posted September 28, 2012 Peeves, at the core of this stupidity is the exact same ideology that underpins the "no zeroes" policy we talked about implemented at some schools in the other threads. It's a ridiculous extension of leftist ideology, in order to remove accountability and responsibility, and therefore eliminate winners and losers. Quote

Mr.Canada Posted September 28, 2012 Report Posted September 28, 2012 (edited) I'm ok with it for kids just learning the game. Like 4 and 5 year old for example. By the ages of 8 or 9 the score needs to be kept. Also it's hard to play a game with a score because the players won't know if they've done well or not. What incentive do the yhave to keep playing if not to win? Like I siad for players just learning the game 4 or 5 year olds it's fine but beyond that it serves no purpose. Guest Peeves Posted October 1, 2012 Report Posted October 1, 2012 I think he's speaking in Klingon. Nope, not Klingon, might be from Avatar. I translated it (lI'be' petaQs...cha' ghobe' pung! )roughly as "How do I like kids...Poached"I think it was from a WC Fields quote initially. Or it might be a rap lyric? http://learnnavi.org/ Quote

This is what I found when I Googled it - Edward and I look at each other, then around the room briefly, then back at each other. "Cha' ghobe' pung," he whispers in my ear in Klingon. Show no mercy. Here's the link but there's nasty four-letter words in the story. Edited October 1, 2012 by American Woman Quote

I sit corrected, my Klingon's gone a bit rusty except for the Big Bang occasional experience. Besides the Southern Accent fooled me. Quote
