Sorry - where does this come from ? Are we going back to blogs again for this stuff ? I consider that a regression.

The blog itself is by an alarmist. The page linked is a fairly straightforward description of the technical issues involved in measuring the oceans. Blogs can be an invaluable source of information and need to be evaluated on a case by case basis. IMO, blanket statements that blogs are not acceptable links are a regression. Edited by TimG

I don't use blogs that often but if one can provide a layman's interpretation of complex science that I might consider helpful to others - I'll share it - regardless of which side of the debate the blogger might be on.

It's fine to have a blog if they explain their sources. My memory tells me that I couldn't find one on this blog. Therefore, as a source of primary information it's worse than useless and should be shunned.

Why? It is no worse than a wikipedia entry except in this case you know who wrote it.

Makes sense though. It takes 2.2 BTU to raise a liter of water 1 degree C but less than .001 BTU to raise a liter of air the same amount.

Michael - what I've posted takes no position - it's general information that doesn't really require a "source". There's no real "position" taken - it's just a primer. Do you not find the information helpful for a layman? In our finer moments, isn't that what we're trying to do - share useful information?

Only if it's real information. I'm sorry but this topic is a minefield full of duds, so I am more careful than that. Thanks, though.
