GostHacked Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 South Park : Stick of Truth. .... I had to stop several times because my stomach hurt from laughing too much. Overall a short game in terms of overall play, but what they managed to pack into this game is amazing. One screen can reference a couple different episodes. 9/10 (one point off for some interface/sound issues and the finale was a little anti-climactic. Age of Wonders III : Fantasy turn based strategy/empire building. As good as the other ones, but much prettier. One major change being the mana/research are now separate resources to acquire instead of the single slider bar. Even on a small map 1v1, the games can last a couple hours. Kerbal Space Program. : Build rockets, go into space, land on planets. Awesome NASA sandbox simulator. ........ All that aside. There is one release I am anxiously waiting for.. ok two releases. The Homeworld Box set. Containts 1 and 2 original with some fixes and modern OS support, and an HD version (of both) with better sound and graphics. Suspected release date is September for the 15th anniversary of the first release. All in preparation to release HW3 aka Homeworld Shipbreakers later this year. When I heard that Gearbox bought the Homeworld IP and managed to get the original developers on board along with taking on the guys who did the mods (Complex). So it seems like they are doing everything right, and I have high expectations http://www.homeworldremastered.com/%C2'> This game with the merch is going to break my bank account. Quote

Will play South Park: Stick of Truth eventually. Love the show, and the game looks well done. Have to still get through Halo 4 and Grand Theft Auto V before I buy it though. May pick up Titanfall on Xbox 360 sometime over the next 6 months if I feel like some online play. Never tried Age of Wonders. Big fan of Civilization-type games, also have Galactic Civilizations II downloaded but yet to play. Looks nice, but the actions is very fast and twitchy. The parkour element is kind of slick. Quote
cybercoma Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 Stick of Truth was great. I really enjoyed it. It's like another South Park movie, but in video game form. Completely takes the piss out of kids who LARP (Live-Action Role Playing).I'm currently playing Infamous: Second Son. I've only played for about 15 mins, so I don't feel comfortable saying anything much about it. I will tell you that the PS4 certainly handles emoting infinitely better than the PS3. It's VERY noticeable.I just finished Bravely Default on the 3DS. Amazing game, despite a certain annoying plot device that I don't want to get into, just in case anyone else wants to play it. I will say that it's the Final Fantasy game that SquareEnix should have been putting out all along, but haven't. It's right back to the roots, but with some fantastic fixes for the things that made JRPGs annoying. For instance, you can set the encounter rate. You can completely turn off random encounters if you want. Problem is you'll be way under powered for the bosses, so you do need to grind at some point. However, this allows you to enter a dungeon, raid it, then turn encounters all the way up to double for awhile to grind. If that's what you would prefer doing. There's also an "auto" battle system that will just use the same techniques that you used for your last battle. This makes grinding a hell of a lot easier and the annoying plot device slightly less annoying. Finally, the game allows you to bank turns (it's a turn-based RPG of course), in order to unleash 4 turns worth of attacks or actions at once. It's a clever design that adds a lot of depth and strategy to a genre that's already full of depth and strategy. I highly recommend it for anyone with a 3DS. Quote
Moonlight Graham Posted April 3, 2014 Author Report Posted April 3, 2014 It's really sad how crappy SquareEnix has become, compared to the PS1 & PS2 days. Chrono Cross is one of my favorite games ever. Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.
cybercoma Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 Bravely Default is back to the goods. They were surprised how well it did because it was never intended for an international audience. They designed it for a Japanese audience. SquareEnix had been spending the last several years trying to be everything to everyone, they said. They're now talking about going back to just focusing on a Japanese audience because of the success they've seen with BD. Quote

My choice, I would not want anyone to spoil this game for me. I am glad I did not watch any media on it before I bought and played it. Quote
cybercoma Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 Very true. I didn't now anything about it when I played it and it was great for that reason. Quote
GostHacked Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 I think I posted this, but this is one game I am looking forward to this year more than anything.http://www.homeworldremastered.com/Remastered and the originals. In prep for HW3 aka Shipbreakers. I recently realized why I like the series a lot. The artwork is very reminiscent of a certain sci-fi artwork style on bookcovers over the years. The main reason that this storyline is so great is that it really is kind of a remake or inspired by BSG. Finding your homeworld. The box set with the other merchandise are going to break my bank account.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homeworld Homeworld is a real-time strategy computer game released on September 28, 1999, developed by Relic Entertainment and published by Sierra Entertainment. It was the first fully three-dimensional RTS.[1] Homeworld was the beginning of a series, followed in 2000 with Homeworld: Cataclysm, in 2003 with Homeworld 2. For 2014 Homeworld HD and Homeworld 2 HD remakes were announced by the new IP holder Gearbox Software.[2] An upcoming game, titled Homeworld: Shipbreakers, is currently being developed by Blackbird Interactive.[3] The lore developed for this game is some of the best sci-fi stuff I have ever read. I recall reading the book that came with the first one (still have it) and was just blown away by the huge fantastic story. Quote
Moonlight Graham Posted April 5, 2014 Author Report Posted April 5, 2014 I played Homeworld back in the day, impressive graphics and it made you really feel like you were commanding a squad of ships...like my teenage fantasies of commanding a Star Destroyer from Star Wars and sending out dozens of Tie Fighters to kill rebel ships lol. But I couldn't get into the game, i'm not a big RTS guy at all, i like turn-based where I have time to think and move at my own pace.
