I thought it interesting that the Republican candidates for POTUS and VP used the backdrop of a navy ship to announce the VP. What was interesting is the lack of any military experience from these two politicians using the military in this way. And the lack of reporting of this issue, especially with Romney managing to avoid the draft during Nam.

Though an early supporter of the Vietnam War, Romney avoided military service at the height of the fighting after high school by seeking and receiving four draft deferments, according to Selective Service records. They included college deferments and a 31-month stretch as a "minister of religion" in France, a classification for Mormon missionaries that the church at the time feared was being overused. The country was cutting troop levels by the time he became eligible for the draft, and his lottery number was not called.

If these were Democrats using the military in this way, i think the backlash would have been profound.

Did you happen to catch the name of the retired ship? I saw her do a GUNEX off Vieques, Puerto Rico in the 80s.......I guess her sister Missouri was busy........

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEszTzdUMcY

I guess if Romney had of picked Chris Christie, they could have used the other sister, New Jersey.....I suppose Romney thought Terry Branstad and the other Iowa representatives were nothing to jump up and down over.....

What was your point again?

You wouldn't understand. Please, rebut the OP with something resembling sensible. Or go away.

You still haven`t figured out the relevance of announcing the selection of Paul Ryan aboard the long since retired USS Wisconsin, berthed in Norfolk Virginia…………Then you go on a tangent about the ‘Nam?

Damn straight I don`t understand.....Has the GOP been launching attacks aimed at Biden or Obama’s military record?……….I’ll now leave you to your windmill.

oh my!... using the backdrop of a naval battleship as a political prop... to introduce a couple of non-serving GOP presidential/vice-presidential candidates... says chickenhawk to me!

"Then Romney says, "… the next president of the United States, Paul Ryan."

Snickers and puzzled expressions muted a building ovation for a heartbeat or two. But then came a throaty outburst, nearly drowned out by heroic movie-theme music loud enough to be felt through the pavement, as Ryan bounded down the bunting-draped steps from the USS Wisconsin, gave Romney a quick hug and joined him in waving to a crowd aflutter with flags."

perhaps one shouldn't be that critical of Romney's service... after all, his avoiding the Vietnam draft associates to a most arduous alternative undertaking - one where he volunteered to knock on doors in France in search of Mormon converts. That mission, Romney said earlier this year, was made “tough” by the presence of American troops in Vietnam!.

That too. Come'on man, Obama uses the military for political purposes all the time.

Yah like killing Osama because as we know Romney has said he would not have given the order. Probably because he is a greater man then Obama he would let Osama walk like Clinton and Bush did. That damn Obama man killing Osama something Shady and Romney hates.

membership has its privileges, hey? Obama - 'Warrior-in-Chief'.

so... you adamantly accept Romney was using a military backdrop for political purposes... and yet you still parroted your ongoing 'Romney Derangement Syndrome' squawk. So you objected to having the obvious pointed out then, hey?

Because its a non issue. It's like a politician kissing a baby. Who cares? Why are your panties in a bunch about it?

no bunched panties here Shady! If you claim it's such a 'non-issue' why did you beak-off with your 'Romney Derangement Syndrome' squawk?

(by the by... still waiting on your cite that, 'Obama sealed his college transcripts'... still waiting, Shady)

purposely quoted to confirm the pending weasel move

No weasel move. I can't link using my phone. You don't dispute that Obama hasn't released his college records right?

over the past relatively modern history going back 50+ years, no U.S. Presidential candidate... other than Mitt Romney... has refused to release his tax returns. In all of U.S. presidential election history, no U.S. Presidential candidate... other than Barack Obama... has been asked for his college academic records... or his birth certificate, for that matter. I'm surprised Donald Trump doesn't have his operatives beating on the doors to Columbia and Harvard for Obama's college transcripts!

as I challenged you previously, how do equate decades old academic records to current years tax returns? Aside from the most obvious diversion tactic, you're either wanting to play on some speculated degree of 'affirmative action' or that 'Obama is a dummy'. Have at er... while you provide that citation to prove that, as you assert, "Obama sealed his college transcripts".

by the by, have you offered your own expert testimony as to why your guy won't release his tax returns. Why not, hey Shady... what's the Mitt hiding?

Here is all anyone needs to know about Obama and collage. The guy graduated Cum Laude from HARVARD. There you go we know he was at the top of his class. End of story.

The IRS sees his tax returns every year. Why has Obama not released his college record? What's he hiding? We've seen Mitt Romneys highschool report card, yet we can't get even a glimpse of the smartest President ever's transcript? Why not? We saw Bush and Kerry's. What's Barry hiding?

I am not the IRS. I don't vote based on what the IRS says, I vote based on my opinion. My opinion is formed by the things I see and read. I want to see Romney's taxes and so does 65% of America. If they vote based on that is yet to be seen but your argument hasn't changed anyones mind.

sir! You were asked for your personal expert testimony on why Romney refuses to release his tax returns... why do you refuse to provide your insight... your expertise? If Romney actually filed, having the IRS, as you say, "see Romney's returns every year", means nothing!

oh, really? Romney has created this flap - it's truly of his own making. If he didn't have something to hide, his tax returns would be out there... his refusal to release the returns has allowed, rightly or wrongly, a veritable feeding frenzy concerning the issue. In these modern times, as a presidential candidate, Romney's refusal to release his tax returns is unprecedented.

- of the one single (incomplete) 2010 return Romney did offer, we've learned he’s been hiding millions in overseas tax shelters since the late 90's.

- what effective tax rates did Romney actually pay... how did he realize those rates... and how do they stack up against the continued Republican talking point that, "America has one of the highest effective corporate/personal tax rates in the world".

- are there years where Romney paid no taxes... and how did he manage to realize such event(s). Ya think the American middle class might be interested in just how a presidential candidate pays taxes at a lesser rate than they do?

- there have been concerns raised over Bain Capital's practices during the 3 years Romney claims not to have actually been "running Bain"... what if Romney's tax returns don't support the claim?

- another ongoing talking point hinges around extending the "Bush tax cuts" for the rich... and you don't believe Romney transparency on his taxes offers perspective on his personal position concerning the continued extension of these "Bush tax cuts"?

- the IRS has only limited means/capabilities in confirming claims made by Romney. Independent review/corroboration is needed, most particularly for someone intending to assume the presidency of the U.S. - perhaps Romney owes/owed unpaid back taxes? Speculation abounds that Romney received an IRS amnesty concerning unpaid back taxes. Perhaps Romney is an actual felon! Who knows!!!

He also gave them all to McCain so they all ready somewhere on a disk ready to be released all he has to do is give the word.

yup... supposedly... when McCain was vetting his choices for his own vice-presidential running mate. The only related comment we have to go by is McCain saying he chose Palin over Romney, saying Palin was a more qualified candidate!

Which is probably why Romney wont let Palin come to his ball in Tampa.
