Guest Peeves Posted June 2, 2012 Report Posted June 2, 2012 Approx. 5 years ago I wrote a member of the Knesset suggesting this as the sensible move. I got a reply thanking me for the suggestion. Wish now that I had kept it on file. Excerpt; Israel may take "unilateral steps" to establish the borders of a future Palestinian state and impose its own solution to a decades-long dispute if peace negotiations continue to fail, its defence minister has warned.Israel returns dead Palestinian militants Israel have returned the bodies of 92 Palestinian militants, including several who had carried out bloody terror attacks within the Jewish state as far back as 1975 Photo: AP By Phoebe Greenwood in Tel Aviv 6:34PM BST 31 May 2012 In a high profile speech that could mark a turning point after years of stalled talks, Ehud Barak became the most senior government official to signal that without progress soon, Israel could effectively go it alone. "If it becomes apparent that [negotiation] is impossible, we need to think about interim agreements and even unilateral action," Mr Barak said in an address to the Institute for National Strategic Studies conference in Tel Aviv. Government officials interpreted his comments as implying a strategy for partial withdrawal of Jewish settlers from the West Bank. That would amount to a de facto declaration of a new Israeli new border and may include those sections of the occupied territory most heavily populated by Israelis. However the demarcation of borders in the so-called "two-state solution" has been one of the thorniest issues, along with the division of Jerusalem, the right of return of Palestinian refugees to Israel and the composition of security forces in the new Palestinian nation. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/israel/9303683/Israel-may-take-unilateral-steps-to-establish-the-borders-of-a-Palestinian-state.html Quote

DogOnPorch Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 Israel already has done this when they built their wall in the west bank. That was built to stop terror cells from getting in and blowing-up discos and school buses. Now, suicide bombings are very rare because of it. Once built, rockets became the main terror weapon. DogOnPorch Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 Can't go through, go over ... how much money spent on the barrier?? You'd have to be able to FIND it on a map to measure the length. Good luck! Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.

DogOnPorch Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 Good one doggy, but they already FOUND that out. The map seems quite clear. Sure it does...that's Ohio... But, no matter that you can't find Israel on a map. The wall stopped the nasty suicide bombers. Rockets are much more 'hit or miss'. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.
j44 Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 Bibi broadening his coalition means he doesn't have to think of the far-right/settlers every time he makes a decision. For someone who is notoriously risk averse maybe this will give him more incentive to make some tough decisions. Quote

Guest Peeves Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 Israel already has done this when they built their wall in the west bank. Many countries have built walls for good reason. With Israel it's to protect citizens from murderers. Quote

More of a difference than that. Mexicans weren't blowing themselves up in the midst of civilian Israelis. Quote

dre Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 More of a difference than that. Mexicans weren't blowing themselves up in the midst of civilian Israelis. They definately would be if the US was running a military occupation of Mexico and plundering for resources like Israel is in the OT's. And even in the absense of that mexicans kill a hell of a lot more Americans than Arabs kill jews. Quote I question things because I am human. dre Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 Not to mention Texas is still part of the USA for some odd...weird...strange reason. Perhaps dre could inform us why. Because the US annexed Texas and its people. The key difference being Israel just wants to annex the resources in the West Bank and keep its population in a perpetual state of statelessness. If Israel HAD annexed the west bank outright in the first place this probably would have been over a few decades ago. Quote I question things because I am human. dre Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 Perhaps if the Mexicans had a violent infatada, the Americans would see things different re: Texas. Yes thats a good point. If the US had NOT annexed Texas, and instead just extracted all of the regions resources under military occupation there definately WOULD have been a violent intifada. Jordan held the so-called West Bank and didn't give up claim until 1988...oddly enough. Oddly enough as well, there were no rabid foaming at the mouth calls for an al-Husseini Clan...errr...pardon...Palestinian homeland during that stretch from 1948-67. Why was that dre? Hmmmmm?? dre Posted June 3, 2012 Report Posted June 3, 2012 (edited) Texas is going to remain part of the USA. Wanna bet? I think meant to the post that to someone who suggested Texas would not remain part of the US? And lets not let the sheer stupidity of this comparison allude us either... Israel itself does not assert a claim of ownership over Gaza or the vast majority of the west bank. The last thing it wants is to annex these places.
