overthere Posted April 13, 2017 Report Posted April 13, 2017 The Jays could just barely maybe possibly squeak into a playoff spot. But to do it, they'll have to make some additions: somebody who can run the bases because this team is seriously slow, a left handed bat for the middle of the lineup, and a much better bullpen. It is beyond belief that the only lefty in the pen is Loup. Loup is not even a major league player IMO, he has sucked very hard for over 2 years. To make significant changes, they'd have to trade at least one of their starting pitchers.. And as I've said a hundred times: this falls squarely on Shapiro and Atkins. The team has gotten steadily worse since they took over. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted May 11, 2017 Report Posted May 11, 2017 I'm not saying this team would be contending with the Yankees had they been healthy. But GAWD!!!! Half the lineup and rotation should be in Buffalo. Morales went down on Tuesday. The fact they don't still have single digit wins is an feat right now. You'd think if Sanchez, Happ, JoDo and Tulo come back at the bare minimum this team should be able to scrape back to .500 by July. With Martin down we get to see if any of the prospect catchers can hack it. OT was 100% right about Salty, dude was worse than Thole. Quote
Boges Posted May 15, 2017 Report Posted May 15, 2017 It's hard to feel that this team is making a bit of an about face. All their core vets (Sans Joey Bats) is injured and they're still winning. Granted not against teams they'd need to beat to make it back to the playoffs, but they did win a series against their ALCS competitors last week. The team is being led by Pillar and Smoak now, who'd have thunk it? Quote
Boges Posted May 31, 2017 Report Posted May 31, 2017 Their competition has been relatively lax but still, winning 7 or 8 is pretty good. With the starting pitching getting healthy at least they're worth watching again. Quote
Boges Posted June 5, 2017 Report Posted June 5, 2017 The good litmus test was this weekend against the Yankees. Mixed result. Splitting the series wasn't a complete disaster but the two L's were embarrassing blowouts and the two W's were close games saved by key Home Runs. They gotta get better to be relevant in September. overthere Posted June 8, 2017 Report Posted June 8, 2017 Get better than what? Mediocrity? .500 record? I don't think so, they don't have the roster for that, because Shapiro and Atkins failed miserably in their jobs. And no, injuries are not an excuse, they sucked early when they had everybody. Money isn't an excuse, they are rolling in dough and have a huge fan base. And they get older and slower every day. I feel sorry for Carrera, he must be the worst left fielder in MLB. Every ball hit there is an adventure. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
mowich Posted June 11, 2017 Report Posted June 11, 2017 I truly enjoy watching the Jays play in Seattle against the Mariners. The fan support they get from Canadians who travel from all provinces of the country to attend the games is simply amazing. Hearing them sing our national anthem always brings shivers. They won 4 - 2 tonight but it was not their best effort by any means. The unforced errors by the defence really concern me including the ones by our pitchers especially when they advance runners. They still aren't able to get the small ball game down and were it not for the homers they would go wanting for runs. Marcus had a good solid outing and earned the win. Joe Smith got out of the 8th with the help of the defence, Roberto Osuna sealed the deal in the 9th. Kendrys, Zeke and Smokie all delivered homers tonight - the latter might have tied with Judge for the most in the season but Aaron got one of his own tonight. Quote

The season is starting to spiral into black comedy. Attaining mediocrity is starting to look like an unachievable dream. Good teams beat us like a rented mule, for fun. In a couple short years Shapiro and Atkins have taken a contending team into.... uncompetitive. Quote Science too hard for you? Try religion!
Boges Posted April 18, 2018 Report Posted April 18, 2018 The 2018 season has been surprisingly positive so far. It seems that just being mediocre is good enough in an American League where only 6 other teams are actually trying to win. Solarte, Dias, Granderson have all been pleasant surprises. The rotation is pretty good and so has the Bullpen. Quote
