The best 'tool' on the war on terror

Is now the American drone. By avoiding putting foot soldiers at risk, minimizing the cost entailed using large scale sorties and attack planes and,by using surgical strikes that avoid collateral civilian victims for the most part, terrorists are being regularly eliminated where they shit.

Where ever these terrorists are, in Afghanistan or Pakistan or Yemen, they are targeted by near invisible weapons.

Canada should buy some and call them Xspouse.

Note however that the targeting and killing of anonymous persons without trial, without even questioning does mean there will be a number of people killed who were not actually guilty of any crimes, who were not a threat. And as you know, dead men tell no tales.

They are not just for war zones. Drones will be patrolling many parts of the skies in North America. The US is ordering 30,000 drones to be used within the USA's mainland.

The FAA Reauthorization Act, which President Obama is expected to sign, also orders the Federal Aviation Administration to develop regulations for the testing and licensing of commercial drones by 2015.

Privacy advocates say the measure will lead to widespread use of drones for electronic surveillance by police agencies across the country and eventually by private companies as well.

“There are serious policy questions on the horizon about privacy and surveillance, by both government agencies and commercial entities,” said Steven Aftergood, who heads the Project on Government Secrecy at the Federation of American Scientists.

Drones are already patrolling the US/Mexico border and the US/Canada border... drones have already been used in charging some individuals in the USA already.

Except they are generally NOT "anonymous" they are known terrorist as below.

Excerpt only;

Yemen's government and the al Qaeda-linked group both identified one of the men as Fahd al-Qasaa, who escaped from prison in 2005 after being convicted of a role in the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole warship in Yemen's port of Aden. That attack killed 17 U.S. sailors.

Residents gave the name of the other man as Fahed Salem al-Akdam.

Residents said the aircraft that fired the missile had been sighted in the sky. No one else was travelling in the vehicle or killed in the incident, they said.

The Yemeni government said Qasaa had been on its most-wanted list of militants.

"Fahd was a leading figure in the terrorist organization al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. (He) was one of Yemen's most wanted terrorists," a statement from the Yemeni embassy in Washington said, adding Qasaa was also known as Abu Hudhayfa.

The authorities have claimed to have killed Qasaa before, but an al Qaeda statement appeared to confirm the death.

"Al Qaeda affirms the martyrdom of the Fahd al-Qasaa in an American attack this afternoon in Rafad," said a statement sent to Reuters by Ansar al-Sharia, a militant group operating in lawless areas of south and east Yemen.

Define "Generally". Or, when is "Generally" actually "good enough".

From your own quote above:

The authorities have claimed to have killed Qasaa before, but an al Qaeda statement appeared to confirm the death.

Evidently, they thought they were killing someone else...

Evidently you wish to be argumentative.

Semantics and misdirection from the point. Drones are an effective weapon against known terrorist targets.

Drones are also an effective weapon against targets of opportunity. Surveillance and kill technology with range and loiter time never before possible realizes a quote from Joe Louis in a contemporary context, "He can run, but he can't hide".

I guess some people think George Bush was kidding when he said America would find terrorists...and kill them.

Drones are a fantastic tool in the government's view. They put no human personnel on their side at risk or even in the warzone, so citizens complain less about "bringing the troops home" and there's less casualties and resulting fallout from the side of the "good guys".

The best thing that could happen to western militaries is if combat was fought with unmanned machines. Robots on the ground, unmanned tanks/planes etc. No friendly casualties would mean less political flak from home. Would also make for a cool sci-fi movie lol.

So if we have these military robots, which would cost thousands if not millions,to fight instead of humans, would this open to the door of constant wars? Just look at the cost of the F-35's and all the problems they are having with the development of it and the fact the US is the largest military weapon exporter, but it has a 15 trillion debt. I could see all social programs gone and all revenue going to the military, is that what we want? If countries put more effort and money into oral communications, perhaps we wouldn't need all these weapons.

Drones are a whole lot cheaper than F-35s. Using robotic weapons where applicable instead of manned weapons greatly reduces costs, it doesn't increase them.

Topaz; "If countries put more effort and money into oral communications, perhaps we wouldn't need all these weapons."

Right. Uh? Would you invite a party (let's not for arguments sake call them a terrorist), with a publicly avowed and sworn objective to murder you and any other on Islamic soil, to a confab without some agreement by the many tribal and sectarian groups that can't agree with one another. If there ever was a consensus between Afghanis or Pakistanis, or Islamists or sectarian Muslims, it might be possible to palaver.

Unfortunately if one group agrees to peace talks anywhere in Islam, that group becomes just another targeted enemy.

That's one reason Muslims are inclined to keep quiet and accept the status quo.

Ummm...no...the USA also has the largest amount of "oral communications". That includes all the US media you consume on a daily basis.

Oh I see, you think drones killing the wrong people is "semantics". Oh well, we've targeted the wrong house and killed somebodies family. Everyone makes mistakes, right? That's why pencils have erasers...

Would you prefer that the entire village be bombed instead? That can be arranged too.

Jesus let me out to bomb terrorists.

Jesus? I thought his lot (not THAT Lot), said turn the other cheek?

But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Maybe that refers to mooning your adversary? Ya think B)
