The_Squid Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 Her peers in government love her.... ...offered a “full and unreserved apology,” for which she received a standing ovation from her fellow Tories in the Commons. It’s a sad day for Canadian politics when all it takes to earn the adulation of your peers is to reluctantly apologize for ripping off taxpayers only after you’ve been caught in the act.. http://www2.macleans.ca/2012/04/25/bev-oda-bad-habits-of-various-kinds/Pretty pathetic reason for applause. It will be interesting to eventually learn how else she ripped off taxpayers but didn't get caught for doing so.... Quote

It will be interesting to eventually learn how else she ripped off taxpayers but didn't get caught for doing so.... AS the NDP pointed out today, she did this 8 MONTHS ago and its only now when she been caught that she is saying she will pay. She still hasn't as of today, paid for the rich and famous car rental. As the opposition parties took their hit on her I was watching Harper's face, and he didn't look too pleased. Quote
cybercoma Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 Harper surrounds himself with fraudsters. This is getting ridiculous. She booked the limo for 15 hours too. The conference was 2kms from the hotel. Fifteen hours? Really? So she's just going to collect the extra money and put it in her bank account? She's scum and Harper's scum for keeping her around. Topaz Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 I was told some Info. about another VIP MP this week. This MP was at a gathering and he went to a security guard as ask him to be a "go for" while on duty. The head of security heard the request and said the guy is on duty and the MP said that's ok, he's only makes minimum wage, and the head guy said to the MP, you are f****n as*****! and this MP just turned and walked away. So some of these guys do think they are entitle and should be treated royally. Also, the Tories keep saying when caught on spending that they are spending less that the Liberals did, please, ANY government that take advantage of the taxpayer is wrong no matter what party they represent, TWO wrongs don't make it right. PIK Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 She will be moved, on harpers terms. And yes these things will happen no matter who is in, but the fact that spending on this stuff is way down, never gets a mentioned. Quote Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.
Shakeyhands Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 but the fact that spending on this stuff is way down, never gets a mentioned. Is it? Have you seen a report or something? Quote "They muddy the water, to make it seem deep." - Friedrich Nietzsche

Argus Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 I think she'll be dropped next cabinet shuffle. Harper doesn't like stuff like this, and she was already warned. Hopefully McKay is moved to something less important as a sign to him that it's time to go. It'd be too much to hope that Harper could drop the standard bearer for "progressive conservatism". fellowtraveller Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 I don't know why she would repay the $16 for the glass of orange juice, that price is not hard to believe in London. Quote The government should do something.

It's also questionable whether they really are. They've changed accounting practices by moving certain costs to the department level amongst other things. We can't even compare LPC spending to CPC spending because it would comparing apples to oranges. The Conservatives could be spending the same or more and it would look like they're spending less. We just don't know. Again, the Conservatives with their 'creative' bookkeeping. Edited April 26, 2012 by cybercoma Quote

We know the Liberals spent around $200 million, any way to confirm the Tory spending? I'm guessing it might be less. Must be accounting practice changes. Quote The government should do something.

madmax Posted April 26, 2012 Author Report Posted April 26, 2012 Is it? Have you seen a report or something? Yes, we are going to see invoices for cheaper limos, cheaper Orange juice, cheaper rooms , from the Cabinet... Quote
madmax Posted April 26, 2012 Author Report Posted April 26, 2012 (edited) Early reports say Oda has had a change of heart.... Oda announced today, well kinda... someone said it for her...she has paid back tax Payers....for her limo ride. so... lets see how long she lasts in cabinet. Edited April 26, 2012 by madmax Quote
Smallc Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 (edited) She's gone. I can almost guarantee it. You see, I will defend the (legitimate) use of military jets, and the purchase of the F-35s, but not this. There was no reason for the change in hotel, and so there was no reason for the limo. I can almost bet that Harper feels the same. Edited April 26, 2012 by Smallc Quote

Smallc Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 Good riddance. Well, she's not gone yet...I'm sure Harper will do it when he feels appropriate. My thoughts - times for a cabinet shuffle. Quote

madmax Posted April 26, 2012 Author Report Posted April 26, 2012 It's as close to a done deal as it could get. I believe so.. Anders managed a few weeks before getting demoted from committee... it might take a little longer for a Cabinet Minister. Considering the File... its ironic that this piece of work would have been considered for the portfolio. I couldn't find a better example of "Let them Eat Cake" since Guergis.. and at least she rolled around with Rick Mercer for a laugh... Without starting a new thread... Who is capable of replacing her... Considering the poor performance of many Conservative Cabinet Ministers, either the bench strength is thin... or... there are some bright MPs being overlooked for positions. Who's out there... toss out some decent names... Quote
madmax Posted April 26, 2012 Author Report Posted April 26, 2012 The Maple Leaf Pundits are victorious again. 9 picked Oda to pay for the limo when XXXX WOULD FREEZE. Mision is accomplished. 9 Votes for repayment wins. And it sure is cold down here... Quote
madmax Posted May 22, 2012 Author Report Posted May 22, 2012 I noticed that question II is still unresolved. Why is Bev Oda still in Harpers Cabinet? Quote
