Cape Verde, Kenya and Rwanda.

An argument could be made for all three and maybe more can't think of them right now. I know with Rwanda's history it would not be viewed as stable, but they have turned around dramatically in the last 16+year after the genocide ended.

Didn't Kenya have huge problems way back when?

And the other one could be, but it's an Island. Not meaning it's not in Africa, but I'm picturing mainland countries.

I know people claim that Namabia and Senagal qualify, but both have had either currently or very recently, some very weak oppositions to very overwhelming governments that it's a bit iffy

I still would not set foot in Africa even if one countrys democracy is the most stable in the world

though it is a shame cause they have the most magnificent animals!

Don't ban me bro. Oh behave, I'll behave. I'll be a good little boy.

Not so way back when. Quite recently, actually. I wouldn't put Kenya in the "stable" category.

Why wouldn't you step one foot "in Africa"??

And sadly, there aren't many stable, fee, and, open democracies on the African continent...

Out you referring to the Mau Mau Uprising??

If so, that might reasonably be considered a pretty serious problem with the British, not just the Kenyans.

I can..

Stability??

Cameroon...Not exactly a democracy under Paul Biya...

Is that comment directed only for Africa or does it include the world?

I wasn't trying to be an ass, I made the assumption you were talking in general. Sorry

I know..

It's OK...

The sad thing is that most of the nations on the African continent, either in the Arab North,or sub-Sarahan South are essentially dicatorships...

I also have intimate knowledge of Cameroon...

What would you say about Rwanda? How far they have come since 1994 is astonishing at least to me. They are functioning as a democracy, and dealing with the trials of many of those animals who participated in the Genocide.

It doesn't seem there is much consensus beyond the two I outlined. This is what I'd thought.

I would also never set foot in Africa, and not just because I don't care about "majestic animals", but for a simple reason...

ITS TOO HOT

Above 25C I start to melt.

Can't speak from experience for any other country in the vast continent that is Africa, but go to Kenya during their winter; I went in June, and trust me, you won't melt. :) As a side note, I've experienced hot weather in Toronto - it gets quite hot during the summer. How do you not melt living there?

Yes, Ottawa gets hot in the summer, and bloody cold in the winter. And I'm saying that as a New Brunswicker, a place not especially famous for mild Januaries.

Agreed...

It's quite astonishing considering who neighbours Rwanda...Particularily the factions in the DRC that are still out there propogating the tribal conflict (brought on,in a large part,by the Belgians) that caused all the problems...

You'd be shocked,frankly....

I've been 3 degrees above the Equator (about 100 km's north of the Cameroon/Gabon border) and had to wear a jacket at night and in the morning in late September....I could see my breath...

I've been there in January and that was hot...Like the middle of July here...So we all went out to the coast and went to the beach!!!

Lotsa hot chicks on that beach (Kribi)...Got in trouble for staring...

Wasn't there last election a bit screwed up?

  • The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).

Find me an "election" in sub-Saharan Africa (outside of South Africa) that isn't screwed up...

Frankly,I', surprised the "Arab Spring" hasn't taken hold in many of those countries because the corruption coupled with the heavy handedness in many of those countries is right out in the open...
