cybercoma Posted November 24, 2014 Report Posted November 24, 2014 No, the police made no effort to control the only violent mob that happened during the G20. There were a couple of hundred of them, and they were allowed to smash windows and burn some police cars without any interference from the police, and then walk away. All the violence thereafter consisted of the police assaulting, attacking, arresting and confining peaceful citizens for no legal reason whatsoever. There were a couple hundred violent protesters? All of the videos showed only a handful of them. Do you know of any videos showing a couple hundred people smashing windows and burning cars? Were there even a couple hundred windows smashed? Quote
Big Guy Posted August 25, 2015 Report Posted August 25, 2015 One officer has been found guilty. http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/toronto-police-officer-found-guilty-of-3-charges-stemming-from-g20-protests-1.2532160 Not sure if this is going to placate anybody. socialist Posted August 25, 2015 Report Posted August 25, 2015 The one who should be charged is now running for the Liberal Party. Who would that be? Quote Thankful to have become a free thinker.
Big Guy Posted August 26, 2015 Report Posted August 26, 2015 A number of officers who did the "on the ground" application of these orders - which have now been found to be illegal - have explained their behavior as "just following orders". Many years ago in Nuremburg, a lengthy trial took place to attempt to make people accountable for their decisions. Their defence was that "we were just following orders". That defence was rejected. It was expected that people in position of authority have the responsibility of evaluating if those orders are valid, legal or moral. I am not sure what defence those policeman who "kettled" and kept civilians in jails without reason have now for their actions. I guess that they may claim that they thought that what they were doing was legal but that being the case, I would expect that someone who gets paid what they do would have a better understanding of the law. But time marches on and time has a way of diffusing controversy.
