Oh, I see. You define "liberal" according to sexual practice. By your definition, the entire world is liberal. Or perhaps, you define "liberal" and "conservative" according to hypocrisy.

What do you mean?

Read the thread please, B.C was the one whom brought up Gay marriage

I just went along with it

Uh, yes. And I present our banking system as historical evidence.

and you claim i need to learn more about canada!!

canadians are socially liberal and fiscally conservative

you may claim majority of canadians are conservative but that doesn't make you right

I didnt know majority of Canadians were against gay marriage, abortion, sexual education

against InSite safe injection facility, against assisted suicide etc

There have been some drifts in public attitudes, mostly by Canadians becoming more socially liberal. Focus Canada finds Canadians much more tolerant or supportive of gay marriage and abortion – and less favourable to capital punishment – than a decade or two ago.

On crime – the Harper government’s big thrust – Canadians are way offside with the government’s approach. Eighty-two per cent of Canadians don’t fear crime in their neighbourhood, and 77 per cent aren’t afraid to walk there at night.

By a whopping 58 per cent to 36 per cent, Canadians prefer prevention programs and education over tougher punishments as a way to combat crime. This sort of approach, of course, is diametrically opposite the one chosen by the Conservatives, who keep announcing headline-grabbing but functionally useless “tough on crime” measures. Seventy-seven per cent of respondents “strongly” or “somewhat” support federal gun regulations.

I've been to Michigan, Ohio, New York states

FYI, Michigan was the first English speaking government in the world to ban the death sentence for murder and lesser crimes, Detroit is known as the most liberal city in the U.S., and perhaps you should attend Ann Arbor's annual Hash Bash..... B) In other words, Michigan is a liberal state, as is New York.

I gave some concrete examples, which you did not comment on at all, so perhaps you could explain why?

Im surprised more Americans dont think there's too much religion in their politics. Even the Democrats have to bring some religion in in an attempt to get swing voters.

I don't think it's something that affects Americans very much as our laws aren't based on religion; I think ultimately it's more rhetoric than anything, and Americans are used to people saying all sorts of things. :P I honestly think that non-Americans are more focused on the 'religion in U.S. politics' aspect than Americans in general are. Americans, I think, are more outspoken than some (ie: boisterous - and I mean that in a good way - and speak our minds) so we are used to such things, and it's not as big a deal as it might be somewhere else.

You have mainstream politicians whom want to ban contraceptives due to their religious beliefs

That is worrying .. politicians whom make remarks like that should be shunned by the populace, not praised

You have politicians who believe a person can "pray the gay away"

AW please don't make it sound like your country doesn't have a problem with religion in politics

Rick Perry isn't going to be the GOP candidate.
