olpfan1 Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 Too bad it will be cloudy here all week, I miss living up north, I'd see the Northern Lights many times Quote
olpfan1 Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 (edited) Don't tell the global warming freaks this but scientists are predicting a little ice age for the next 30 years, it is the sun that dictates our weather, not pollution http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/03/07/lorne-gunter-for-climate-cues-look-to-the-sun/ Scientists who have made careers of studying the sun warn that our star is about to enter a less-active phase — a solar minimum that could last 30 years or longer. If that happens, some physicists see a worldwide return to the temperatures of the Little Ice Age (LIA). Not coincidentally, the deepest part of the LIA — during the late 17th century — was the last time our sun generated as few sunspots and as little geomagnetic activity as it appears set to generate for the next few decades. Sun and greenhouse gasses both have an effect, but that should go on another thread, I think. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner

I disagree, During the last "little ice age" volcanic activity was intense, volcanoes emit way more gaseous substances than coal factories & vehicles yet the earth was cooling That is proof alone that "greenhouse gasses" don't affect the temperature on a world wide scale One of the hottest years on record was decades a go.. before warming ever started to happen, I don't think you can tell me that "greenhouse gasses" caused that Quote
olpfan1 Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 They are saying this will likely be a G4 storm http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/NOAAscales/ Power systems: possible widespread voltage control problems and some protective systems will mistakenly trip out key assets from the grid. Spacecraft operations: may experience surface charging and tracking problems, corrections may be needed for orientation problems. Other systems: induced pipeline currents affect preventive measures, HF radio propagation sporadic, satellite navigation degraded for hours, low-frequency radio navigation disrupted, and aurora has been seen as low as Alabama and northern California (typically 45° geomagnetic lat.)**. Guest Peeves Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 The Earth will feel the effects of a sloar flare heading this way tonight around midnight. http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/SciTech/20120307/massive-solar-flare-headed-to-earth-120307/ If it's sloar it will be late getting here. But that's ok, just your cell and such will be flared. Personally I'm gonna flare my nostrils. Quote
Wild Bill Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 If it's sloar it will be late getting here. But that's ok, just your cell and such will be flared. Personally I'm gonna flare my nostrils. This is a hilarious example of the low standard of basic science amongst the general population, Peeves! Solar flares have been happening as long as the Sun has existed! They are as common as a rainbow. Yet we have so many posters showing such worry and concern for a very simple reason - its the first they've heard about it! bush_cheney2004 Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 Sorry....the solar flare didn't get here until about 5AM EST because of heavy traffic on the 405. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
olpfan1 Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 I was so hyped by this "strongest solar storm in 5 years" that I watched 2012 last night! And today the hydro was out for an hour and a half so I was like omgomg solar storm knocked out the grid! but it ended up just being a blown transformer talk about a let down! Quote
