Guest Peeves Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 I read were a drunk driver with repeated license suspensions was again caught driving and sentenced to no driving now for life. DUH! If he ignored that order before, who I ask will ba assigned full time to ensure he doesn't get behind the wheel of a vehicle? No one ya sez? I agree. How long do you think that ultimatum will work this time?....Short answer. NO TIME AT ALL. Similarly we have read were an illegal gun toting idjit was sentenced to a brief term of restriction to home. Now, who is assigned permanently to ensuring he doesn't leave. Or, that those others with a similar sentence don't leave their house? Only a very few are sentenced to wear ankle monitors. Thinking....thinking.... I give up. Now I suggest the judge should put the SOB's in a jail cell where we KNOW what they are doing rather than giving them an unenforceable unmonitored sentence. that leaves the law abiding citizen at risk. What's the alternative? Quote

Guest Peeves Posted March 3, 2012 Report Posted March 3, 2012 Public execution by gunshot wound on the side of the road and carried out by the police themselves? Nah, not at the side of the road, some bleeding heart liberal might get a bit turned off. Maybe an ankle bracelet for life that monitors the criminal. One that interferes with a cars start up (computer) and steering? As for the sentence to residence,an ankle bracelet that sets off an audio alarm on the criminals roof top if he/she crosses the threshold and a charge of aiding and abetting for; Any that let a convicted driver of using their vehicle. An aiding and abetting for any that allow a criminal in house arrest to leave the house. Quote

Technological engineered solutions are probably best. Social and moral engineering are only so good at governing or otherwise ameliorating many human behaviours. I'd prefer hands free cars and computerized automated road systems myself, one in which I can simply Google up a car when I need to get somewhere. Preferably a car with a bar. Yeh, that's a great idea. I do understand though why slap on the wrist sentencing...home sentencing, or license suspensions don't work, they aren't monitored. I never here of violations for leaving the house which proves no one is checking. And, telling a drunk he's not allowed to drive won't stop him/her from driving anymore than a license suspension will. Quote

Well, there's your first problem easily solved right there. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

eyeball Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Bring on the bracelets then. They've got to be cheaper than prisons and for those who absolutely insist on discomfort and pain I'm sure we could install whatever it is they out on dog collars to deliver an occasional correction. Topaz Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 I've been watching the senate justice committees and people who have problems with alcohol, drugs and commit crimes is said to be a health issue and not a crime issue. So they need to go to a rehab to get over the addiction. They don't get the help they need in prisons and when they get back out they do the same thing over and over again. Quote

Guest Peeves Posted March 6, 2012 Report Posted March 6, 2012 Prison has too much comfort. Take away that and you can afford to send more bad people to jail. Well I think there are too many convicted of non violent crimes taking up jail space associated costs when they could be sentenced to restrictions in house, with ankle bracelets and perhaps freedom to work and pay back victims and society. Bryan Posted March 9, 2012 Report Posted March 9, 2012 Prison has too much comfort. Take away that and you can afford to send more bad people to jail. The new prisons should be concrete boxes, no amenities at all. No windows, no beds, an ice cold shower built into the cell that turns on at random intervals. Dish of unrecognizable food shoved under the door once every second day. If Amnesty International is not raising a stink about prisoner abuse, that means you're being too soft on criminals. Quote
