fellowtraveller Posted May 16, 2012 Report Posted May 16, 2012 I'm intrigued to watch this movie again, in Blu-ray at home. With a woman or two for a second opinion. I did watch it with two women at the theater on the first day of release, both intelligent and well educated. And opinionated. One hated Thatcher before she saw the movie, thought Streep was great and felt that Thatcher was grossly misrepresented in a heavily unbalanced script. She said it was the first and only time she ever felt a shred of sympathy for the woman. The other knew little of Thatcher specifics, only by reputation and thought the script had large unexplained holes, she also did not understand why her senility was so prominent since the movie was about a major political figure, not a crazy old woman. Quote The government should do something.
sharkman Posted July 24, 2012 Report Posted July 24, 2012 I had much the same reaction, fellow. An opportunity to make a great movie using the amazing portrayal by Streep was wasted. The movie was somewhat of a mess. Why they decided to include so much time on her senility when there was so much to her life was just idiocy. Left leaning movie professionals that can't pass up an opportunity to take a cheap shot at somewhat they didn't like. How typical. I had no intention of ever watching this movie after what I'd heard about it, but my wife brought it home from the library today, and I thought why not after she popped it in. That's 2 hours I'll never get back. Quote
bleeding heart Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 I couldn't care less about a movie being "disrespectful" of an historical figure (and no one has any obligation, moral, artistic or otherwise, to adhere to "respect"). However, the movie sucks. I agree with that. Quote “There is a limit to how much we can constantly say no to the political masters in Washington. All we had was Afghanistan to wave. On every other file we were offside. Eventually we came onside on Haiti, so we got another arrow in our quiver." --Bill Graham, Former Canadian Foreign Minister, 2007
