kactus Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 This is truely great news. I only wished more people like him get a positive coverage in the US and elsewhere.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6zP1xCFeUM&feature Quote
Moonlight Graham Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Good for him. He said of Iranians in is acceptance speech: "they are a very peace-loving people" (it's hard to make out in that vid) Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.

One thing that does get not mentioned are the list of foreign movies chosen for oscar nominations...Same director also won this award. Shady Posted February 27, 2012 Report Posted February 27, 2012 The Iranian government is touting its first Oscar victory as a win over Israel in a rare move that is mixing politics and culture, the latest in a string of incidents that are signaling rising tensions between the two countries.Iranian TV touted the prestigious recognition as “leaving behind” its Israeli competitor — a film from the “Zionist regime” — while the head the Iranian Cinematic Agency called the award the “beginning of the collapse” of Israeli influence that “beats the drum of war” in the United States, according to the AP. kactus Posted February 27, 2012 Author Report Posted February 27, 2012 (edited) This is the government we're suppose to believe is rational, right? Has nothing to do with rationality. Governments do use events to score a political point. That includes the government of Israel, who is not exactly blameless... But more to the point why is it that you cannot make a single positive comment to appreciate a talent when the credit is due and instead search the web for an article to belittle his great work with politics?? At least Moonlight Graham saw the "cultural" angle to this and apreciated his work. Edited February 27, 2012 by kactus Quote
