-TSS- Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 These laws are just silly where denying the existence of some historical event is considered a crime. Besides, what does it concern France in the first place at all whether or not Turkey slaughtered Armenians? Quote
jbg Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 Canada has had a female prime minister and several female governor generals. How many times has the head of state been female? How many female govenrors have there been? As far as governors, plenty. Lurline (sp) Wallace in Alabama in 1960's. Governor Grasso (think first name Ellen) in Connecticut during 1970's. Christi Todd Whitman in New Jersey during 1990's. Anne Richards, in Texas, 1991 to 1995. That's just offhand, without googling. They're really not that rare. Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone." Always remember that when you are in the right you can afford to keep your temper, and when you are in the wrong you cannot afford to lose it. - J.J. Reynolds. Will the steps anyone is proposing to fight "climate change" reduce a single temperature, by a single degree, at a single location? The mantra of "world opinion" or the views of the "international community" betrays flabby and weak reasoning (link).
Scotty Posted January 29, 2012 Report Posted January 29, 2012 I agree with you heartedly. And in Canada how many have become PM? I know many have been in the Cabinet though, both provincial and Federal. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Are you suggesting the US has a better record of fair and respectful treatment of Blacks than Canada? Quote It is an inverted moral calculus that tries to persuade the world to demonize one state that tries its civilized best to abide in a difficult time and place, and rides merrily by the examples and practices of dozens of states and leaderships that drop into brutality every day without a twinge of regret or a whisper of condemnation. - Rex Murphy

They're really not that rare. More than 50% of the population is female and there are currently 6 female governors out of 50 states. The first female governor, who wasn't married or widowed to a previous governor, was not elected to office until 1974. Almost half of the states (24) have never elected a female governor: Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The most female governors serving at any one time has been 9 (2004 and 2007). There have only been 31 women that have served as governors in the entire history of the United States (20 being elected in their own right).(more info: http://www.cawp.rutgers.edu/fast_facts/levels_of_office/documents/govhistory.pdf) Don't even try to pretend that US politics is more representative. It's just as bad as Canadian politics. Quote
