wyly Posted December 13, 2011 Report Posted December 13, 2011 nobody is strong arming then with you assuming all women who wear a veil are strong armed??? Quote “Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives.”- John Stuart Mill
Guest American Woman Posted December 13, 2011 Report Posted December 13, 2011 Yeah, you wouldn't think so, until you look into the statistics of the number of women with body image issues, the increase in plastic surgery over the years, and the amount of money spent each year on cosmetics and diet fads. When it becomes that prevalent it's less about personal choice and more about social programming. Yeah, you're right. I'd much rather live in Saudi Arabia where I have no rights at all than to live here and have to live with social pressure. Not having choices is so much more appealing. Bottom line. "Social programming"/social pressure and "the law" are two very different things. Take it from a woman. Living here is one helluva lot better than living there. And no "evidence" you try to give me will change that. Quote
Jack Weber Posted December 13, 2011 Report Posted December 13, 2011 Attn: AW This is how you're an object to be consumed by men's gaze. Enjoying the female form,as a male,is objectification... Well,I'm not gay!!!! Quote The beatings will continue until morale improves!!!
cybercoma Posted December 13, 2011 Report Posted December 13, 2011 My point of view?? I'm a woman. I think I know more about women being treated as an object than you, a man, would. I think I know more about me not being treated as an object than you would. You think your evidence will change that?? I know a hell of a lot more about society and culture than you. Quote
Jack Weber Posted December 13, 2011 Report Posted December 13, 2011 with you assuming all women who wear a veil are strong armed??? No...But some are "programmed socially"... Quote The beatings will continue until morale improves!!!
dre Posted December 13, 2011 Report Posted December 13, 2011 Not the murder, obviously that's unnacceptable... But the culture that seems to condone this behaviour, and within it,the wearing of regressive headgear as acceptable... Regressive behaviour towards females, being the key here... Well... I could care less what muslim women wear. But in any case we cant do anything about it. Banning women from wearing these face coverings would be just as regressive as forcing them to. What we oughtta do, and what we CAN do is make it clear to them that in Canada its their choice. And I think most of them understand that pretty well because I very rarely see muslim women wearing these outfits. Quote I question things because I am human. And no "evidence" you try to give me will change that. I'm not talking about which one's better than the other. They vary in degree, not by kind. That's the point. Of course you wouldn't want to live in Saudi Arabia. I'm not arguing that. It's pretty convenient that you feel you can shut down conversation by saying "take it from a woman" when you don't agree with someone's point of view, but you haven't told anyone else in this thread that agrees with you that their male opinion isn't valid. I should just put you on ignore because I can't even take you seriously anymore. Quote

I'm not going topless! Women have that right, as they have the right to dress scantily or not. And I would wager that some women love the attention going topless/dressing scantily gives them. dre Posted December 13, 2011 Report Posted December 13, 2011 From my perspective, nobody should be able to prevent the federal government from determining the identity of a citizen. It should be illegal to do so in my view. But one would have to assume that by the time potential citizens are taking the silly symbolic oath they have already been carefully identified and screened right? Nooooooooo. The choice isn't off limits because I don't like it; it's off limits because it interferes with the citizenship oath requirements. Quote

Yeah, I'm sure most women hate being started at. I'm sure most women try their darnedest to look as unattractive as possible so as not to attract attention from men. Quote
