Guest Derek L Posted November 25, 2011 Report Posted November 25, 2011 Sorta like the ones where you call Harper a dictator and assume he'll fuck up the country? I'll make a claim. In four years the Global economy will finally be turning around and Harper will get credit for it. Prove me wrong! You’re wrong, PM Harper will declare himself Generalissimo Harper, dissolves Parliament, lock-up all dissenters into his new Gulags, then realize, hey, we don’t need any further elections…….Didn’t you get the group email on the secret agenda? In four years the Global economy will finally be turning around and Harper will get credit for it. Prove me wrong! Oh I don't know about that. There are some big global structural problems in the global economy that will take a long time to fix. If Harper can keep unemployment where it is, he will have done well, which will be tricky because ontario's jobs can be done in Asia. The global economy is harpers main concern and could very well sink him next election. Evening Star Posted November 25, 2011 Report Posted November 25, 2011 Another hunch? Why didn’t they vote in the last federal election? The Tories, promised their crime bill, the F-35, prisons, cuts to government spending, scraping the long gun registry, all well involved in Libya, and it didn’t seem to trigger a response in terms of voter turnout………Now they are delivering (to a degree) or in the process of, on what they spoke about……..What has changed between then and now…..we’re talking a mater of months………I’d say the biggest impact on the next federal election, that has occurred to date, will be the death of Jack Layton. The next federal election battle will be between the Liberals and NDP fighting for title of official opposition…… The real question for the next election will be if the Liberal Party can claw back the left of center and progressive vote from the NDP……. I think it's really too early to say anything. Even a month before the last election, I knew of exactly one person who thought the NDP would become Official Opposition. Even on Babble, no one else really took that proposition seriously. Quote

Even a month before the last election, I knew of exactly one person who thought the NDP would become Official Opposition. Even on Babble, no one else really took that proposition seriously. For the most part I concur…..four years is a lifetime in politics and anything could happen, be it caused by the various parties, in both a positive and negative (Based on where you stand) light in the public’s eye, and/or event(s) could occur, by no fault or design, of the various parties that could effect each parties fortunes in positive and negative light (Again based on your viewpoint) I will suggest and predict (Granted from a biased and to a small degree, and inside vantage point) that any and all potentially “controversial” bills/legislation/agendas/decrees/manifestos etc will be tabled, voted on and passed prior to the summer break in 2012.…..at the latest mid fall of next year, around the same as the US presidential elections……..after that, and up to our next Federal election, PM Harper will become the Canadian version of Ward Cleaver……..after winning said election, rinse and repeat. Barring some political scandal, with traction, or World events truly out of Harper’s control, but would impact Canadians in a negative way, causing the Tories to bare the brunt, I think Harper’s (and the CPC) destiny is his own to set……….Once Harper retires, as it stands currently, I’m not as optimistic with the Tories fortunes. Guest Derek L Posted November 25, 2011 Report Posted November 25, 2011 hence the oops To beat King's record, PM Harper would have to be Prime Minster until ~2028, putting him at 69 years of age.....it's possible.........and he'd be the longest consecutive serving Prime Minster....... Quote
olp1fan Posted November 25, 2011 Report Posted November 25, 2011 (edited) According to what happened today the Cons are backing off CBC so they lose, Canadians win http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/politics/article/1091899--releasing-records-would-undermine-competitive-position-cbc-says?bn=1 A Federal Court of Appeal decision released Wednesday said that had the committee read them and commented on them, the matter would have been rendered moot. Conservative MP Dean Del Mastro, the parliamentary secretary to the Prime Minister who had put forward the motion, told the committee Thursday that he no longer saw the need to read those documents and so agreed to return them to the CBC. That had opposition MPs saying the government had climbed down from the brink of interference with the judicial system. “We were at a point, potentially, of constitutional crisis,” NDP MP Charlie Angus (Timmins–James Bay) told reporters after the meeting. “I’m glad the Conservatives have backed down on this because what they were doing was very dangerous.” Edited November 25, 2011 by olp1fan Quote

They believe they can benefit from diminishing the role of the public broadcaster. They have a self-interested agenda and they will continue to use Access to Information and do stories in their newspapers and on their television stations to pursue it.” Quote
