You can't say that this came at the Conservatives because of some type of Liberal majority in the Election Canada world. If anything the tight grasp and sudden Conservative flip that has overtaken Ottawa has proven true with nothing being laid on the heads of any Conservative top brass workers. We know that they are guilty of the charges because they plead guilty. We also know that they didn't take any of it seriously largely no doubt because they had already made headway in the election because of it. It was after all effective.

The fact is that we do have a government that plays short and fast with the rules. It will remove almost any opposition especially that from professional opinion. This whole affair I think is yet another example of the Harper government showing it's disregard toward the Ottawa establishment.

\Exactly, and other parties have done the same thing in the past without elections Canada doing a thing. Even the political news station discussions have indicated the Bloc did the same thing frequently.

Certainly that's not an excuse, the law was broken, but one has top wonder why it became an issue suddenly in 2008 with the Conservative elected.

IMV, the Ottawa bureaucracy doesn't like Harper and they are trying to "bring down" Harper.

In fact, these Ottawa bureaucrats - in their hamfisted way - are simply driving more voters into the Harper/Conservative camp.

From the Wheat Board to the CBC, from Foreign Affairs to Heritage Canada and Elections Canada, I don't think the bureaucrats quite understand the contempt of ordinary Canadian taxpayers for the "bureaucratic way of life".

For example, the CBC organized a Harris-Decima poll through the Canadian Press recently. Link As if life could be so simple as a poll, and a press release into the Toronto-centric media.

Harper is on the right track. These bureaucrats are paper tigers. But perhaps what is more important, when they attempt to "bring down" Harper, they are so inconscient that they merely push more voters into the Conservative camp.

Like I said. Youre desperate to give them a pass for ideological reasons. If theyre investigated by the police youll simply dismiss the police as corrupt. If they plead guilty to charges, youll consider them innocent. If they get caught raping a teenage girl youll say it was because she dressed slutty.

Its pretty a pretty common phenomenon today, and certainly not something thats your fault.

My feeling is that we have campaign finance laws for a reason, and they should have a lot more teeth, and people should be willing to hold all the parties to thes ame standard.
