Ok this is an interesting one I didn't expect to see.

http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/politics/article/1049151--tories-ask-elections-canada-to-investigate-the-ndp-over-union-sponsorships

So what was the clutch after 44 years to get the Conservatives to investigate the NDP's practice? -- was it a card up the sleeve for all those years just waiting until they became the official opposition?

SPONSERSHIP NEED NOT BE MONETARY, IT COULD BE PATRONAGE.. wow money not being SPONSERING?

Lets you know how these goons think. EVERYTHING IS MONEY.. what people think doesn't have value eh?

Not going through it seems...

What was this all about?

Ummm.... first of all, the article makes it clear that they were referring to a specific event (an NDP meeting).

Secondly, you DO realize that the rules for party contributions has changed lately, don't you? Rules have been brought in that limit how much an individual or organization can donate. Perhaps the conservatives didn't complain a few years ago because it wasn't against the law a few years ago.

There are specific rules to set up to help avoid people skirting election finance rules.

If I own an advertising firm, I am limited to (I think) a $500 donation. I cannot skirt the law and offer to print all of a party's election literature (worth thousands of dollars) for a token sum of $1 because the token sum doesn't represent the real value.

This doesn't mean that the NDP actually broke the law, but its the type of law that must be respected to ensure a level playing field.

Too bad this sort of law didn't apply provincially. I'm not impressed by the money the Ontario teachers unions are putting into helping McGuinty get elected, a quid pro quo for all the favours and high raises he's arranged for them, no doubt.

If this storey read, “Conservatives being investigated after allegations made of donations by Big Oil and the Banks” and the Tories allowed the CEO’s of said Banks, Oil Companies etc to be given a percentage of votes to select their next leader, I’m sure this thread would be 10+ pages long.

Oh this is rich....complaints about election financing coming from the In and Out Party of criminals...

“This is all about who you represent,” Mr. Dewar (NDP) said. “We’re (NDP) talking about representing the interests of working people and everyday Canadians and they [the Conservatives] are about representing the fund managers who come in and fleece our companies and our country.

Yeh but the suprise would be because they were letting someone vote.

It will be interesting to see the details behind this.

Sometime in April I had attended a liberal rally in Brampton west at the CAW union hall. One of the business reps for the CAW introduced and put his support behind Andrew Kania(then MP of Brampton west) and Mike Ignatief.

Was lending their hall for a liberal rally paid for or a contribution?

Devil is in the details and something tells me the conservatives are feeling a little lonely in the scandal department.

But maybe there's something here.

While the Liberals get to break deadlines for paying for their election financing, over and over with impunity.

Of course, there is no double standard! The Tories get charged because well, they're Tories! The Liberals get off because well, they're Liberals!

Were the Liberals charged and found guilty by Elections Canada? Were the Liberals even mentioned in this article?

Your Conservatives are much like the Liberals though...they keep stalling over and over by ignoring or appealling the rulings with impunity.

Birds of the same feather.
