CitizenX Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 I think that it's possible that the social media site YouTube could go down in history as one of the great Social justice tools. Thoughts? CitizenX Posted August 6, 2011 Author Report Posted August 6, 2011 (edited) Well for one Police have abused their power since forever, but it was always your word against his. Without YouTube these dirty cops got away with murder. Some examples Robert Dziekański murder G20 rights violations Countless acts of assault, one example here in Kelowna. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbdareHU4Ik&feature=relmfu One from Victoria Edited August 6, 2011 by CitizenX Quote "The rich people have their lobbyists and the poor people have their feet." kimmy Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 The scumbag cop in the Kelowna incident was also charged with beating up someone in a separate incident. And he's under investigation for beating up someone else in another earlier incident. The fact is: the RCMP wouldn't have done anything about the guy if it wasn't for the video. Getting the guy caught on video, red-handed, and putting it on YouTube for the world to see is the only thing that made a difference. If it wasn't for that video and the ability of the internet to spread it to a wide audience, that piece of crap would still be out on the street kicking people in the face. (now he's sitting at home collecting an RCMP paycheque for doing nothing, instead. yay!) -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

Bonam Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 Cops beating people up is "normal justice"? No, I was referring to this sentence: Getting the guy caught on video, red-handed, and putting it on YouTube for the world to see is the only thing that made a difference. Should have been obvious from the context. Quote

I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with any civil rights violations or social injustice in this incident. Please give me some examples. I thought it was a riot that involved a bunch of jack ass criminals. Edited August 6, 2011 by CitizenX Quote "The rich people have their lobbyists and the poor people have their feet." Oleg Bach Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 MY 21 year old bring up a few of these videos and I pop in to have a quick look....I keep a pretty good eye on main stream media...But as my son put it "Dad the news does not show what is really happening when it comes to bad things...it is worse than we imagine" - well - Private reporting by ameteurs might open up the eyes of the world - and maybe things will improve - or we might just get more jaded.. Is it only vigilante justice if the state is not the recipient of that "justice". I fail to see the difference. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC

Mostly because they have no confidence in the law or the legal system, which I don't agree with. What I do appreciate is putting up these video's and pictures in the public domain in order to embarrass these people and and inflict public ridicule, not to mention help the police to convict.
