Jack Weber Posted June 10, 2011 Report Posted June 10, 2011 (edited) Ive also heard a lot of the same problems are (or have) creeping up in the New Orleans & Mesa Verde…… Avondale is a yard that is constantly building something for DOD, how do you think theyd fair with a 20 year work stoppage? The Avondale yard is one of the most dangerous yards in North America... It's no wonder they do poor work. They can't get anyone to work there!!!The last I heared of the place was the workforce had enough with the unsafe conditions and had certified with the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers... Guest Derek L Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 "We shall continue our long term program to reequip the Canadian Forces with the tools that they need." - Stephen Harper, June 10th, 2011 And, on the 5th of June, 1987, Brian Mulroney unveiled Challenge and Commitment: A Defence Policy for Canada......Around the same time, Minister of National Defence Perrin Beatty said: In addition to deterrence and defence, the new thrust of exploration of the seabed and competition for resources that may be found in the Arctic could lead to disputes about sovereignty over maritime supremacy and rights of passage. While these are unlikely to be settled by gunboat diplomacy, Canada would be in a much stronger position to press her claims if she possessed adequate capabilities to establish surveillance and presence in the contested waters. No I have not, but, Texas is one of the strongest States in the union, well California is bankrupt.... Quote

Yes!!! And the states that have the highest rates of industrial accidents/deaths and poorest safety records... Not surprisingly,Mississippi is one of the poorest states in the union... And the IBBM will find work elsewhere... Energy...Power generation...Shipbuilding... Smallc Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 RTW is a canard designed to keep wages and benefit plans artificially low under the guise of "personal freedom"... Pretty much, yep. I do take issue with some public unions, but in industries like shipbuilding, there's still a long way to go. Quote
Jack Weber Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 Pretty much, yep. I do take issue with some public unions, but in industries like shipbuilding, there's still a long way to go. Having worked in the industry as a tradesperson,I know full well how dangerous that work can be and how callous most employers are in that industry towards its labour... Jack Weber Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 No one is forced to work in the yards... Explain California and Texas... Love your free market silliness... Explain why the RTW states are almost all in the lower 3rd of houshold income in the US? Why they have far worse benefit plans?? Why the average worker earns at least $5000 a year less? Mississippi being around 50th,by the way... I realize that free marketeers, such as yourself love RTW for the benefits it provides vis a vis impediments to your blessed market...And your very appreciative to the useful idiots who buy in to the RTW silliness like chickens befriending Col. Smallc Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 (edited) Explain California California has broken government because of Citizens Initiatives. The state itself is very well off. Edited June 11, 2011 by Smallc Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 So thats a no on explaining the differences between Texas and California...Both States have a GDP comparable with Canada's, but one is bankrupt. California is not "bankrupt"....it has a larger GDP than the entire nation of Canada and less than half the debt. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Guest Derek L Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 California has broken government because of Citizens Initiatives. The state itself is very well off. I guess some people could call being insolvent "very well off"... Quote
Smallc Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 I guess some people could call being insolvent "very well off"... The government is having problems because they can't do what needs to be done because those kind sof decisions have to be voted on by the people. It has nothing to do with RTW. Quote
Guest Derek L Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 California is not "bankrupt"....it has a larger GDP than the entire nation of Canada and less than half the debt. it's not bankrupt...yet....Whats the major difference between the finaces of Texas & California? Why is one bankrupt insolvent? Quote
Smallc Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 Countries and states really aren't comparable. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 it's not bankrupt...yet....Whats the major difference between the finaces of Texas & California? Why is one bankrupt insolvent? Why do provinces receive equalization payments? Because some are "insolvent"? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
bush_cheney2004 Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 Countries and states really aren't comparable. I agree....final assembly of Canada's C-17's in California from parts made by "yokels" in RTW states makes for a very unfair comparison! Perhaps better luck is ahead building ships. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Guest Derek L Posted June 11, 2011 Report Posted June 11, 2011 Why do provinces receive equalization payments? Because some are "insolvent"? So (my point) each states economic health can depend on multiple factors? Is Mississippi really the poorest state because of RWT laws? Texas (RWT) is healthy, California (no RWT) not so much, and Mississippi (RWT) the poorest of the lot. Quote
