Rue Posted May 24, 2011 Report Posted May 24, 2011 (edited) So an extremist Jewish terrorist group doesn't represent the entire Jewish cause? So extremist Jewish groups' actions shouldn't be used to paint the whole culture? Your rhetorical questions designed to bait and incite prove what? How long do you think this will go on? GostHacked Posted May 25, 2011 Report Posted May 25, 2011 I'm an atheist...so any 'God' is a myth. God is a myth, I'll buy that. So since god is a myth, every single prophet or son of god is a myth as well. So all the stories about all the prophets are myths. Everything is a myth. Jesus is a myth, Mohammed is a myth. But who would write these myths? What purpose? Quote

Jesus, Mosses, Mohamed don't have to be myths. There are plenty of crazy people who think they're talking to a higher being. José Luis de Jesús Miranda thinks he is the messiah, speaks with "God", and has millions of Christian followers. Quote

While Jesus may have been some sort of amalgam of various prophet types (see: Life of Brian), Mohammed was indeed a historical figure as per Attila...Tamerlane...King Richard. But, it wasn't Mohammed that captured Jerusalem from the Christians and declared it the very site that he went to Heaven with the angel Gabriel (atop the old Jewish temple). That was a mere man and another historical figure, Omar...or Umar if you prefer. Quote Nothing cracks a turtle like Leon Uris.

bloodyminded Posted May 25, 2011 Report Posted May 25, 2011 (edited) Epileptic, too. Also, fooled by Shaitan. Well, not really; it's a monotheistic hypothesis, an attempt to explain an early reconciliation with pantheism. Some goddesses, whose "intercession is required." The reconciliation quickly abandoned in favour of "one God only." The apocryphal tale is probably untrue anyway, though the "official" idea of dude talking to God on the hillside doesn't do it for me either. (To be fair to the pantheists, the idea of multiple gods in dispute seems better suited to the human experience anyway.) Part of Rushdie's troubles came from this idea (hence the name of the novel) but which also referred to intentional "mistakes" by the Prophet's Persian translator. Then Rushdie named whores in a brothel after the Prophet's wives, and I think that's what really set the Ayatollah off. Even though Khomeini never read the damn thing. Personally, I don't blame him. The book is ambitious and brilliant, but also dull as fuck and insufferable as hell. It kind of sucks, really, and is one of the more overrated well-known novels of the modern era.(But declaring a death sentence for a book you've never read seems a little harsh, no?)
