Yes, philosophy (metaphysics) would probably be the top of my list.

In truth? I was pretty drunk when I registered mid-term for that one. Thought it was advanced physics.

Freaking shocker there! :o

So you were happy with what Germany and Japan did in starting WWII and during it. And more importantly, what they were planning to keep doing?

Not happy with what Germany and Japan did or what we were thaught they did?

And secondly its not our battle. We never started it and we should not get involved.

If you want to get involved go join the American military.

    oh ya that's all there is too it...absolutely clueless post...

Yet the average person with a four year arts degree wont be in my financial situation. Its all about the money all of the time. Ill take reading books over saddling myself with unnecessary debt. Its a waste of money if I'm my own boss hiring myself. The books did the job.

There is a great quote my American friends keep repeating. I'm not sure who said it or if this is exactly the correct wording, but...

"All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."

I don't think we should do nothing.

The government can't give anything to anyone without having first taken it from someone else.

Its all about the money all of the time.

That's not true at all. There is far more to life than money. Money is important, but so are other things. Knowledge is just one of those other things. That said, you're right in that you don't always need university for knowledge. I don't have a degree (though I went to the UofM for 2 years and RRC for 1), but I keep myself informed as much as possible on many subjects.

Posted

And I am absolutely sure that both the degrees impressed potential employers, plus the thinking methodology and problem solving skills that a good university education teaches you helped me advance.

exactly...that's what uni teaches and that what your degree confirms...it doesn't matter what your degree was in, it confirms to the employer that you are capable...if your degree happens to be in the work you've been hired for that's a bonus...I'm sure most history students do not find careers in their field but they are sought after for their ability to research, analyze and write a report...I've told all three of my kids in uni and technical college it's fine to have your preferred career but opportunities may take you in a different direction than they imagined...

Ya great quote coming from a country that did not get involved in any of the great wars only until after millions of people have died.

Just to clarify, hypothetically , if you witnessed a women being raped, an elderly person being robbed or a child being abducted, you wouldn’t intervene, since it’s not your fight?

That's totally irrelevant to my post.

A large percentage of the population, didn't want to get involved, since it wasn't their fight.....isn't that your stance?

Where you fine with the outcome in Rwanda?

It's funny how people that aren't university educated and for all intents and purposes are entirely clueless about university educations are decrying it as useless.

$60k for a university education? What university charges $15000 per year for classes?

Also, people seem to be blissfully unaware that universities hand out money to students that can hit the honour roll or dean's lists, cutting down the expense further.

Sure, if you go to university with the mentality that "Cs get degrees", you're going to be flipping burgers when you're done. If you actually show up and do a good job there are numerous benefits to that education.

Finally, all of your spurious anecdotal evidence aside, the statistics show that having a university degree... any university degree results in significantly higher earnings throughout a person's lifetime.

If you don't know anything about an industry maybe your value judgments aren't all that valid.

Your forgetting about living expenses and rent. That adds up pretty quick I think, unless living is free which I don't think it is.

You also should come out to western canada. Those smart enough to find work that's in demand uni educated or not do better than those who aren't smart enough to find the right kind of work.

I have a university degree in engineering. I would like nothing better, if I had the time and money, then to go back and take some "artsie" courses. The world is a fascinating place, and education should be a goal in itself.

I have a friend who was a biologist gave it up and did something she actually enjoyed, running a soup kitchen...a local MD gave it up and became an EMT, he loves it...another acquaintance was a software expert gave it up moved to the west coast and runs fish hatchery...

Finally I get to put the cherry on the cake. Thanks for helping me whip your ass!

Ok so how would the F-35 save the lives of the people in Rawanda?

How would freakin Tiger armoured troop personel carriers save those innocent lives.

Wouldn't have saved one freakin person buddy!

That problem was caused by people not taking Canadians serious!

Time to turn our back on the people who have turned their back on us.

The best action we could do is to send the UN and NATO the message that they are f'n up.

Okay, I was gonna stay out of this one...but not anymore.

How would these "tools of destruction" have helped in Rwanda? In a million different ways. Let me tell you something sparky, the Canadian Armed Forces will go anywhere, anytime and kick the shit out of anybody. But they can't unless the government of the day gives them the go-ahead. In Rwanda, the government, not the military, chose to turn their collective heads and ignore the issue altogether.

Give some of those flyboys a couple of F-35s and you'll see ass kicking on an epic scale. Got high speed response, armored tactical vehicles? Great. Let the forces put them on the ground over there and all those little bastards doing the raping and killing would soon be hamburger. But, no, the government of the day chose not to.

You actually think the UN gives two shits about Canada? Turn our back on them? Whatever. The UN is about as useless as a bladeless knife without a handle. They won't come "crawlin back to us" because they barely know we exist unless they happen to be publishing a list of "worst places for immigrants" or some other bullshit.

Want atrocities to end? Quit tying the hands of the guys who can prevent them. The Canadian and US Armed Forces.

As was echoed by Hydraboss, if so premitted, Romeo Dallaire, with the aide of the CAR and a UN mandaite in the use of force, could have saved many lives in Rawanda.

Poor cross analogy there buddy.

hear the whooshing noise go over your head??... that was the point of my post which you failed to grasp...a perfect example what a lack of logic, comprehension and sophistication that results from a minimal education...

fixed your spelling...

The above comment from the person who referred to Myanmar as "Miramar". I wouldn't go fixing anyone's spelling and bragging about it if I were you.

like the generals of Miramar or China the N Korean leadership retains power by looking after the military first at the expense of the civilians...like all other military supplies food will have been stockpiled, rice is very storage friendly...and as in any major war food shortages will hit both sides...

I didn't correct your uneducated error; I just put it in bold.
