Canadians really detest sleazeball politicians who tried to deceive them. Unfortunately Harper doesn't seem to grasp the fact that he loses the votes of Canadian each time he plays games by not coming clean with his intentions.

Harper said whoever wins the most number of seats initially gets to govern until defeated by tne opposition. Will Harper keep his word to Canadians and give up power if the Cons end with the second most number of seats on Monday nite? I have my doubts - what say you?

Harper mum on post-election governing scenario

Stephen Harper is refusing to say whether he would accept a decision by the Governor-General to hand power to the opposition parties in wake of the May 2 election.

Conservative supporters booed a CBC journalist at a Greater Toronto Area campaign stop Saturday morning after he challenged the Tory Leader on the matter.

Canada isn't some third world country. If The Tories finish in second place then that party which finished first will be forming gov't if given the opportunity by the GG.

I don't understand why this is even posted. If Harper didn't agree with Democracy we wouldn't have any election at all and he would name himself King of Canada for life.

If he was like Francisco Franco I'd be ok with it. Francisco Franco was the greatest leader in the last 100 years. A leader of his passion and vision only come along once in a lifetime. He was a brilliant, nationalistic man who loved his country. You just don't see that level of passion from any of our current leaders. On one side of my wall in my study I have a crucifix on the other side I have a portrait of Franco. I kiss each daily.

Exactly my point. If Harper was so against democracy we wouldn't be having an election at all.

You may need help. If you want to go live in a dictatorship, feel free to move to China. They aren't even communist anymore!

Being taken over...through winning a democratic election. Unlike your hero.

Now, if Harper attempted to form a government after finishing second (which will not happen, btw), it would be perfectly legal and within our democratic rules. If that happened, I would find it very funny to see him explain his sudden change of position. You would probably find excuses for him.

Canada should've had a civil war. If it had we wouldn't have half as many problems as we do now. Sometimes war is the only thing two sides can understand.

I like strong leadership. Sometimes a country needs a strong government to guide it through difficult times. Drastic times call for drastic measures.

Like dictatorship.

Tell us, does the danger that a NDP government would cause justify a coup d'état come Tueday morning? I am not asking if Harper is thinking about something like that, or insinuating he is (I quite frankly don't think he is). I am asking what YOU think about such a scenario.

The NDP and BQ should be banned outright. All socialist parties should be banned as they are all treasonous in nature.

Anyone who advocates dictatorship and civil war - which is what YOU do, is an ennemy of Canada.

As for your claim the NDP is treasonous... well... they are not the ones hinting at a violent overthrow of our democratic government. YOU are.

I love Canada but it is like an adolescent right now and needs a strong conservative father to raise it adulthood. That strong leader should be able to decide his own length of tenure. The maturity of Canada will decide when it's best to step down and not a moment sooner. I love strong leaders because they are like the nations father who always knows best.

If your going to make stupid posts like this try and understand the way our government works. Its not a dictatorship, if the governor general hands power over to a coalition then it is done. Him not taking the idiotic bait from a journalist doesn't mean he is hiding anything.

My point is that you worship a dictator.

More idiotic statements on this post than worth counting. He isnt a dictator, he is a prime minister who was leading the government when duely elected to do so. The left needs to come up with something more than dumb attempts to demonize the guy.

Indeed! Besides, Harper has given Canadians the truth; the Liberals, NDP and fellow-travellers are strangers to the truth and can't recognize it.

If I had been referring to Harper, you would have a point. FACT is, I was referring to Francisco Franco. The man Mr. Canada thinks is a great man. The man whose photo is on the back of his crucifix. The man whose photo he kisses every day.

This is one case where you would have been well served by following the thread. Who I was referring to was plenty clear.

Nice to admit that Bev Oda didn't speak for Harper when she lied (I'll keep it at that).

And he wasn't claiming Harper is a would be dictator.

Doesn't change the fact Harper is evasive as to whether or not he would consider trying to (legally) form the government in the case if a NDP victory. If he is gonna stick to his conviction that only the party with the most seats should form the government, shouldn't he say so?

Correction. He is a self-admitted opponent of democracy. Who would most likely support and applaud a coup d'état (which is highly unlikely to happen). Which would constitute treason.

Uh, you mean like Jack Layton presenting NDP candidates in Quebec who go abroad during the campaign or on election day, don't live/campaign in the riding, can't speak French or who favour Quebec independence?

Many Canadian voters who don't follow politics closely are going to be shocked to discover how Jack Layton and the NDP have deceived them.
