Harper said whoever wins the most number of seats initially gets to govern until defeated by tne opposition. Will Harper keep his word to Canadians and give up power if the Cons end with the second most number of seats on Monday nite? I have my doubts - what say you? Harper mum on post-election governing scenario Stephen Harper is refusing to say whether he would accept a decision by the Governor-General to hand power to the opposition parties in wake of the May 2 election. If The Tories finish in second place then that party which finished first will be forming gov't if given the opportunity by the GG. I don't understand why this is even posted. If Harper didn't agree with Democracy we wouldn't have any election at all and he would name himself King of Canada for life. If he was like Francisco Franco I'd be ok with it. Francisco Franco was the greatest leader in the last 100 years. A leader of his passion and vision only come along once in a lifetime. He was a brilliant, nationalistic man who loved his country. You just don't see that level of passion from any of our current leaders. On one side of my wall in my study I have a crucifix on the other side I have a portrait of Franco. I kiss each daily. CANADIEN Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 fact is Harper loves Canada is trying bravely, to protect it from being taken over by the socialists. Being taken over...through winning a democratic election. Unlike your hero. Now, if Harper attempted to form a government after finishing second (which will not happen, btw), it would be perfectly legal and within our democratic rules. If that happened, I would find it very funny to see him explain his sudden change of position. You would probably find excuses for him. Quote

If it had we wouldn't have half as many problems as we do now. Sometimes war is the only thing two sides can understand. I am not asking if Harper is thinking about something like that, or insinuating he is (I quite frankly don't think he is). I am asking what YOU think about such a scenario. Quote

If I had been referring to Harper, you would have a point. FACT is, I was referring to Francisco Franco. The man Mr. Canada thinks is a great man. The man whose photo is on the back of his crucifix. And he wasn't claiming Harper is a would be dictator. Doesn't change the fact Harper is evasive as to whether or not he would consider trying to (legally) form the government in the case if a NDP victory. If he is gonna stick to his conviction that only the party with the most seats should form the government, shouldn't he say so? Quote
CANADIEN Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 You're a moron. Correction. He is a self-admitted opponent of democracy. Who would most likely support and applaud a coup d'état (which is highly unlikely to happen). Which would constitute treason. Quote
August1991 Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Canadians really detest sleazeball politicians who tried to deceive them.Uh, you mean like Jack Layton presenting NDP candidates in Quebec who go abroad during the campaign or on election day, don't live/campaign in the riding, can't speak French or who favour Quebec independence? Many Canadian voters who don't follow politics closely are going to be shocked to discover how Jack Layton and the NDP have deceived them.
