So when the lib rag it's self says harper, then people better believe it. I just can't believe canadians could actually believe jacks promises.

Toronto, like a roach motel in the middle of a pretty living room.

I'd like to see a poll done on how many people actually pay attention to and/or change their votes based on newspaper endorsements.

Anyone that does is a fool... whether they choose Cons, Libs, NDP, Greens, Bloc, Indys... it doesn't matter. Research and come to your own conclusions.

I doubt they do. I doubt Canadians believe any of the promises by any of the parties (and with good reason, we're headed for another minority so everything they're spouting is sheer garbage). At this point, I don't really think it's about platform at all.

Well said.

What would be the chances of let's say the right wing Sun endorsing the NDP and it's readers changing their votes.. not bloody likely.

It's a tepid at best endorsement by the Globe telling Canadians they should settle and prepare themselves for more of this:

That is the great strike against the Conservatives: a disrespect for Parliament, the abuse of prorogation, the repeated attempts (including during this campaign) to stanch debate and free expression. It is a disappointing failing in a leader who previously emerged from a populist movement that fought so valiantly for democratic reforms.

Ya..ok...

“This is all about who you represent,” Mr. Dewar (NDP) said. “We’re (NDP) talking about representing the interests of working people and everyday Canadians and they [the Conservatives] are about representing the fund managers who come in and fleece our companies and our country.

I agree. This is nothing but the voters wanting to deliver a big kick in the a** to the incumbents. The same thing happened in Toronto with Rob Ford. Edited by TimG

Yes, this very much looks like a revolt against the Liberals and, potentially against the Tories. If nothing else, it suggests to me that these two parties need to seriously look at their leadership and tactics. The Liberals, at least, will have plenty of time to do that as they sit in nosebleed territory in the next session of Parliament.

"Lib rag"?? The Globe endorsed Harper in the last two elections and has generally supported the PCs or CPC for most of the last few decades. They flirted with the Liberals when they were at their most neoliberal. The fact that they endorsed Trudeau twice is an anomaly:

Remember, 99% of newspapers and news agencies are Liberal Socialist rags to conservatives.

It's that whole 'if you're not with us you're against us' tribal mentality of theirs.

Some could classify it as 'short man's syndrome' but in reality, it's a simple case of insecurity they suffer from.

in canada it's the other way...the only left leaning paper I know of is the TO star and I've never even seen a copy of it, only the odd online posting...

The Globe realizes what disasterous policies Layton would bring upon Canada. After all, they were around when the exact same policies were put in place by Bob Rae.

Our deficit isn't big enough, Jack Layton wants it bigger!!! If he gets his way, we'll be Ireland, Spain, and Greece in no time.

At some point even you have to admit that simply repeating the same tired slogans is probably not going to help. As I said before, this has nothing to do with the platforms, which are all absurd and unworkable given nobody is going to have a majority. This appears to be something quite separate from that, so continually bringing up Bob Rae makes you look like the guy from Rain Man endlessly spewing off phone numbers.

It's not a slogan to ask a politician how he's going to pay for his promised spending spree. He does realize we have a deficit right? His math doesn't add up. Unless he just plans to blow the deficit into the stratosphere. He's a joke.

Are you deaf and blind? All their platforms and the inadequacies are utterly and completely irrelevant. No one is going to be governing solo after May 2. The platforms exist solely as talking points with a low to zero likelihood of coming to fruition in anything resembling their current form.

And I thought I was a cynic. The libs, historically, have lied. The NDP have never been in a position to have their potential lies tested. I honestly believe the Cons have at least tried. I got burned bad by the Cons unit trust lie. Still pisses me off. But they are probably closer to their ideology than the Libs, and as I said, no track record for the NPD.

The government can't give anything to anyone without having first taken it from someone else.

I'm not saying anyone is lying, per se, but if we're faced with a minority government or potentially with some sort of coalition, by the very nature of things all bets are off. Doubtless some promises will survive in some form, but they'll be forced to fit through the eye of the needle that is the rest of Parliament.
