Aw, they probably are the most progressive govt the country's seen in a decade or two and still they haven't strayed too far from neoliberal orthodoxy with corporate tax cuts and corporate contracts. You'd prefer an all-around hard-neoliberal consensus? :(

The Ontario Liberals are an Enigma.

I also think they are going down the toilet.

The Saskatchewan CCF implemented the first medicare system in the country. The Liberals implemented medicare as national policy, yes, with some pressure and support from the NDP. Seems simple enough. All three parties deserve credit for their parts but it does make sense to give the primary credit for the national policy to the government that actually had to implement it.

If there were no NDP members in parliment during the 60s, there would be no Canada Health Act. Regardless of whom was in power.

It does appear the most progressive pieces of legislation only come in during minority parliments.

The 2 Major Parties don't implement that kind of legislation, such as HealthCare, when they hold majority power.

Regardless of whether its Social Credit, Progressives, CCFs or NDP, and going back in time, all the other parties of the day, its only when the government is squeezed, that the juice comes out of the lemon.

Maybe you think Tommy Douglas was a Liberal?

No, he was a Christian Preacher.

Considering you can only really ever implement that legislation once, I guess we'll never know, now will we? Pearson would've done it with a majority or minority. Trudeau would have as well. Do I need to reel off Trudeau's progressive policies while he had a majority?

The Ontario Liberals are an Enigma.

I also think they are going down the toilet.

They made up 8 points in the last poll and are statistically tied with the Tories. When people find out who Hudak is and who he'll bring to power, I think that's game over. I think a minority Liberal government is most likely.

Just like when Belinda and Brison joined Liberals.

Ignatieff, Rae, and Dion are just finishing nails in Liberal coffin.

There's a coffin now? Jeez, 77 seats and the party is dead. So when Mulroney and Kim Campbell took the Conservaties from the largest majority in Canadian history to 2 seats, that's what in your books?

That was the death of Red Tories (Liberals in disguise).

Fortunately real conservatives followed Preston Manning to eventual victory today.

You wish. If this current government is any amound to the left of the PC government we last had, it's a very small amount.

Funny. The Liberal riding association where Rossi is running raised $12,000 the day he announced he'd be running for the PCs.

Why is it funny? Is it bad or good?

Posted

This is why the Limousine Liberals are so upset with Rossi:

Rossi is 416. He is urban. Think Bloor and Yonge. Torontonians remember him best as the energetic CEO of the Heart and Stroke Foundation pedalling along at the head of the Becel Heart and Stroke Ride for Heart.

Rossi will give lots of Torontonians, the folks McGuinty takes for granted, a reason to at least consider Hudak as the next premier.

McGuinty’s entire election plan is to paint Hudak as a Neanderthal (wasn’t that Smitherman’s strategy with Ford?). The announcement that Rossi is now part of the Hudak team throws a monkey wrench into that scheme.

Which is why the Toronto Liberal elite, like Warren Kinsella and Kathleen Wynne, are so apoplectic.

Gosh, maybe Toronto isn’t a safe Liberal enclave anymore.

No it's not, it's because the guy ditched the team.

Also, as for your article, leave it to the Toronto Sun say Toronto isn't a Liberal enclave anymore a week after a poll confirmed a double digit Liberal lead within the 416. Rossi may run in Toronto, and he may represent all those urban sensibilities. He has to win first, though. I have a feeling Rossi is going to turn into John Tory pt. 2.

Considering you can only really ever implement that legislation once, I guess we'll never know, now will we? Pearson would've done it with a majority or minority.

We know this.

No Liberal Government of any Province Brought forth Public Medicare and Universal Health Care, until the CCF actually did it.

It was not a new idea, but one no Liberal adopted, but many talked about.

Medicare came in under Tommy Douglas, 1948

Universal Health Care under Woodrow Stanely Lloyd.

Pearson follows suit in 1966.

By this time, all provinces, Alberta being the 2nd under the SC, had all bought into this model of Healthcare.

Regardless, without the CCF, NDP it would never have come to pass.

Anyone from that era, will not tell you any different and many remember when they had to pay for their medical treatments or go without.

Now, if you wish to talk about social policies and Liberal accomplishments during 1993 to 2005, please do.

Only thing I am aware of are some death bed announcements.

Otherwise the LPC record is that of taking away from those who Contributed to EI to the tune of $48billion and giving it away to those of the the greatest wealth.

Much of what the Federal Liberals did, and few will argue, was behave like Mike Harris, but with a smile.

Cuts, Cuts, Cuts, and when prosperous, give from those with little to those with lots.

Infact, that continued with Ignatieff supporting more corporate tax cuts, for shell and cibc.

Martin much the same way except when faced with a minority government.

Liberals will do, but only when pushed.

Otherwise, take any corporate agenda and the liberals will follow just as the Conservatives do.

Did you use the left or right side of your brain coming up with that comment?

Whichever side I used, you can be assured that it was at least one more side than you used to come up with your 'post' (If I should be so bold as to call it that).

SmallC, you need to embrace PM Harper and stop with all the anger. It'll give you a heart attack. I know you still live at home but once you get out into the real world you'll see that someone has to pay for all those lovely social programs you hold dear. Those are people with jobs who pay taxes. I know asking you and your kind to work is like spitting in your faces but it's the truth.

And I know that asking someone like you to think is a pointless endeavour, but, hey, it's worth a try. FYI, I support the Conservative government, and in about two weeks, I'll own 1/3 of a multi million dollar business.
