bjre Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 (edited) Don't tell us that, tell us to those people in China sitting in jail for campaigning for democracy. Liar, those are in jail not for campaigning for democracy, it is for the same reason as here: http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=17027&view=findpost&p=577155 Canada does have laws against sedition: Part II of the Canadian Criminal Code deals with 'Offences against Public Order'. It includes sedition (ss. 59-61), treason (ss. 46-50), sabotage (s. 52), incitement to mutiny (s. 53) and an offence of intimidating Parliament or the legislature of a province by an act of violence (s. 51). Seditious intention encompasses everyone who a) teaches or advocates, or publishes or circulates any writing that advocates, the use, without the authority of law, of force as a means of accomplishing a governmental change within Canada. Many Canadian sitting in jail stripped for campaigning for democracy such as during recent G20 summit in Toronto. I wouldn't presume to teach you about complex matters, nor to deny that the Western democracies are somewhat less free than we often like to pronounce. I'm only suggesting that China is not some sort of beacon or template to which freedom-loving poeple might aspire. I"m certainly not claiming a clear knowledge of what life is like in China. bjre Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 (edited) I can't read Chinese. Maybe a description of what these pages are, who administers them, where they're hosted, who has access and some translations of what they're saying ? Those are bbs that every Chinese who has a computer can access that. The 2nd one is own by offical People's Daily, the 2 others I have no idea, it was there for very long time, I use the 1st one since 1998 long before I came to Canada. If it is not official, at least it has good relationship with the gov. I guess the 3rd website is owned by private, I am not sure. There are often posts that discuss democracy, human right there. You can find a lot that blaming government in each of the web site. And you can find more from other web sites. If China does not have top number of website, it should be at least at the 2nd place. And the internet population is the world's largest. It is just too many. The reason why I said western freedom lie is, that one of the hongkong website (http://blog.ifeng.com, people in China can access it) delete those posts that against democracy and remain only the opposite posts. That is the best example about the truth of so called "freedom", you can only support it, you can not against it, otherwise, your opinion will not appear in the west corporate mainstream media. On the other hand, on Chinese Official People's Daily, there was an artical called "Democracy is a good thing", I did never find any "Communist is a good thing" in western mainstream media China has more freedom. Michael Hardner Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 google translation. I am busy now. good luck. I found people defending the police, and the government, and criticizing the press but no discussions on democracy, voting, nor nothing that stood out as criticism of the government. I looked for awhile. Maybe you can find a link on one of those pages, and point it out to me to translate ? Otherwise, I don't think I can spend much more time trying to prove your point for you.
